There is no single confirmed fix for every Warzone PC crash. Activision’s recommended checks are to confirm your PC meets the current requirements, update Windows and your supported graphics driver, let shader preloading finish, repair the game files in your launcher, and test for conflicting background software. The phrase “Season 5” is ambiguous: the Season 05 patch notes cited here are from 2025, while Activision’s current season overview identifies Season 06 in September 2026.
First, identify which Season 5 build you mean
Warzone seasons recur, so “Season 5” alone does not identify a year or game build. Activision’s Season 05 patch notes discussed below are for the 2025 release. They cannot be assumed to describe a different Season 5 or the current version of Warzone.
Activision’s season overview identifies Season 06 as current in its September 17, 2026 update. If your crash began after an update, check the notes and live Known Issues page for the build you actually have installed.
Work through the PC checks in order
Try these steps one at a time, then relaunch the game and see whether the crash recurs. A change in behavior can help narrow the cause; none is a guaranteed fix for an unspecified crash.

1. Confirm your PC meets Activision’s current requirements
Activision’s requirements page, dated March 11, 2026, says its specifications may change. Its published minimum desktop specifications include:
- Windows 10 64-bit with the latest update
- AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600
- 8 GB RAM
- AMD Radeon RX 470, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970/1060, or Intel Arc A580
- 3 GB video memory
- An SSD with 116 GB available at launch
The page also requires broadband internet, DirectX 12 compatibility, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and an Intel or AMD processor that supports AVX. Laptop graphics models may differ from desktop cards and may not be supported. Review Activision’s live PC system requirements for the current specifications. The storage requirement is a compatibility check, not evidence that buying an SSD will fix a crash on a system that already meets it.

- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
2. Update Windows and your graphics driver
Activision supports Windows 10 and Windows 11 and recommends keeping Windows current. Its PC troubleshooting guidance says the latest Windows 11 version greatly improves NVIDIA stability. That is guidance to update, not a promise that an update will resolve every crash.
Graphics driver versions change over time. Activision’s page lists AMD 25.12.1, NVIDIA desktop/notebook 591.59, NVIDIA workstation 582.08, and Intel 32.0.101.8531, alongside caveats for NVIDIA Maxwell and Pascal architectures. Check the live support page for current versions and compatibility rather than treating these numbers as permanent recommendations.

3. Let shader preloading finish
After launching, remain at the Main Menu until shader preloading completes. Activision says, “Shader Preloading is an important part of the first boot process.” Navigating away from the Main Menu interrupts preloading and can lead to performance issues, so wait for it to finish before entering other menus or a match.
4. Repair files in the launcher you already use
Choose the repair option for your installed copy of Warzone; there is no need to switch launchers as a first troubleshooting step.

Once the check completes, launch Warzone again. If it reports damaged or missing files, allow the launcher to restore them before testing.
5. Test for background software conflicts
Activision advises disabling applications or services that may interfere with the game. Its guidance names input-remapping tools, overlays, recording software, NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, and Razer Cortex as possible conflict candidates. A mention in support guidance does not mean any particular app caused your crash.

Close or disable one candidate at a time and test the game, so you can tell whether the change matters. If the problem persists, Activision also suggests a clean boot. Its troubleshooting guidance recommends updating Razer Synapse and re-enabling ASLR if you had disabled it and the game will not start.
Activision’s antivirus guidance is to add the whole game folder to your antivirus exception list. Do this only if appropriate for your setup, and follow your antivirus vendor’s instructions; exceptions reduce scanning of the selected files and should not be applied casually.

The official 2025 Season 05 patch notes say, “Fixed an issue causing a crash when taking a player hostage.” They also say, “Fixed various stability issues.” The hostage note applies to that specific in-game action, while the broader stability wording does not establish that all PC crashes were fixed. If your Season 5 build or symptom is different, these notes do not identify your cause.
If the crash continues
Check Activision’s Known Issues page, which is updated as issues are tracked. The page’s September 25, 2026 update did not list a general PC crash issue in the captured content. That absence does not rule out a game bug affecting an individual player. The same page includes a reported Xbox-on-PC 0x error, for which Activision recommends repairing the application and reinstalling if repair fails; that is a separate platform-specific case, not a general PC crash remedy.
If the crash is persistent or reproducible, submit Activision’s Call of Duty PC Crash Report. Include accurate system and crash details so the report can help investigate the issue.
Quick Recap
Record details that help distinguish causes
- Which launcher you use: Steam, Battle.net, or Xbox app

- Any error code or crash-report signature
- Whether the problem began directly after an update
- Your GPU, graphics driver version, and Windows version
- Whether file verification or temporarily disabling an overlay or background utility changes the behavior
