If Black Ops 6 disappeared from your PS5 or now needs a fresh download, Activision says the change is tied to the game becoming a standalone title outside the Call of Duty experience. Older Black Ops 6 files installed within that experience were scheduled for automatic removal on July 7, 2026, to free storage. That does not mean every PS5 player must reinstall both Black Ops 6 and Warzone: reinstall the title that is actually missing, using the route that matches your digital or disc ownership.
Why Black Ops 6 may need to be installed again
Activision says Black Ops 6 moved out of the Call of Duty experience and became a standalone title across platforms. Older Black Ops 6 files installed within the Call of Duty experience were scheduled to be automatically removed on July 7, 2026, to free storage. As a result, an existing installation may no longer be enough to launch the standalone game. The change does not establish that every PS5 owner will see the same prompt or need the same download.
Activision’s Black Ops 6 installation instructions provide separate routes for digital and disc owners.
Reinstall Black Ops 6 on PS5
If you own the digital version
- Launch Call of Duty and open All Games.
- Select Black Ops 6 to open its PlayStation Store page, then download the title.
- Alternatively, find Black Ops 6 directly in the PlayStation Store and download it there.
After installation, you can launch the standalone game from the PS5 dashboard or Game Library. Activision also says it can be launched from the main Call of Duty install.

If you own the disc version
The Call of Duty experience must be installed for the disc route. Insert the disc, launch Call of Duty, open All Games, select Black Ops 6, proceed to the PlayStation Store, and download the title. If Call of Duty is not installed, Activision says inserting the disc can start its download. The Call of Duty experience is also available through the platform storefront via Warzone.
If the PlayStation Store asks you to buy Black Ops 6 again
Do not treat a full-price purchase prompt as proof that you need to buy the game again. Activision specifically addresses this issue: first confirm that the primary user account associated with the purchase is signed in. Then open your PS5 Library, find Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and download the free game launcher from there. Follow the relevant digital or disc installation route once the launcher is available.

Reinstall Warzone only if it is missing
The Black Ops 6 change does not establish that all players must reinstall Warzone. If Warzone itself is missing or marked uninstalled, Activision’s Warzone installation instructions say to open the PS5 Game Library, go to Your Collection, select Call of Duty: Warzone, and choose Download.

After checking ownership, account, and the correct title-specific download route, try PlayStation’s general update troubleshooting steps:

- Test the PS5’s internet connection.
- Restart the console.
- Check that the PS5 system software is up to date.
- Reinstall the game from the Game Library or disc.
- If the problem continues, use Safe Mode to clear the cache and rebuild the database, following PlayStation’s update troubleshooting guidance.
Activision’s current installation instructions do not give a universal PS5 download size. The required packs and total space can vary with the content selected, so check the console’s download details rather than relying on a single advertised gigabyte figure.

In August 2024, Call of Duty described a separate file-reorganization project involving phased downloads, Warzone’s separation from annual titles’ default downloads, and more control over installed content. PS5 players received that particular update as four downloads because of differences in file organization. That historical update is distinct from the 2026 Black Ops 6 standalone transition; the two changes should not be confused. See the 2024 Call of Duty roadmap for that earlier explanation.
