If CameraFi Live says your YouTube stream key is rejected, first confirm you have the right YouTube channel and stream selected, then copy that stream’s current key into CameraFi’s stream-key field. Check the server URL separately: the key and URL are different settings. If a fresh key and matching URL still fail, check livestream activation, connection or RTMPS errors, and CameraFi’s sign-in method before concluding the key itself is the problem.
Start by identifying what failed
Note the exact error text and where it appears: in CameraFi before the stream starts, in YouTube Live Control Room, or after CameraFi begins sending video. “Stream key rejected” does not identify a single confirmed CameraFi cause; the official guidance supports a diagnostic sequence rather than a product-specific diagnosis. Do not include the key in screenshots, email, or public support posts: it functions like a password. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Check the channel, stream, and livestream setup
- Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go live → Stream. In Live Control Room, make sure the selected channel is the one you intend to broadcast from and that you are looking at the intended stream. Copy settings from that stream, not another channel or an older stream. YouTube explains that the key identifies the stream and tells YouTube where to accept the encoder feed. Manage live stream settings.
- Confirm livestreaming is enabled for that channel. CameraFi’s setup guide says YouTube activation can take up to 24 hours after enabling livestreaming; this is vendor setup guidance, not a guaranteed waiting period for a rejected key. If your Google account has multiple channels, CameraFi’s FAQ notes that YouTube verification applies to the individual channel, so another channel may need its own verification. CameraFi’s YouTube setup guide · CameraFi Live FAQ.
- Make sure a stream has been created. Use the stream selected in Live Control Room and its corresponding settings in CameraFi. A mismatch between channels or streams can look like a credential problem even when the key was copied correctly from somewhere else.
Copy or reset the YouTube stream key
- In YouTube Studio, go to Create → Go live → Stream and copy the current key for the intended stream.
- In CameraFi Live, paste it into the stream-key field. Avoid adding spaces or placing it in the server URL field.
- If the saved key may be stale, was exposed, or YouTube reports an encoder start error, a channel owner or manager can select Reset beside the key in Live Control Room. Copy the new key and replace the old value in CameraFi and in every other encoder that uses that key. Do not continue retrying the invalidated key. YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting recommends getting a new key and updating the encoder. Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
Verify the stream URL and protocol separately
The server or stream URL is not the stream key. Compare CameraFi’s URL field with the URL shown for the same stream in YouTube Live Control Room, and put each value in its matching field. If the exact message mentions an SSL certificate or timeout, treat it first as a possible transport or connectivity issue, not proof that the key is wrong. YouTube advises using the current RTMPS server URL and checking that the encoder supports RTMPS. Its guidance mentions port 443 for the described SSL-error case; that is a transport troubleshooting step, not a general fix for key rejection. Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
Update CameraFi and isolate the remaining issue
- Update the app from its official store. YouTube recommends using the latest encoder software. The CameraFi Live Google Play listing showed an update on 2026-09-11; check the current listing because app versions and platform behavior can change. CameraFi Live on Google Play.
- Separate account, credential, and transport paths. If you use manual key entry, check the selected channel, stream, key, and URL. If CameraFi connects by signing into YouTube instead of using a key, the troubleshooting path differs; CameraFi’s FAQ says to contact the third-party software’s support when YouTube is accessed without a stream key.
- Check encoder output and outbound connectivity. If the key and URL match but YouTube still cannot receive the stream, follow YouTube’s general encoder troubleshooting for inspecting output and testing the internet connection. A network or encoder problem is not established as a key error merely because the stream fails to start. YouTube encoder troubleshooting.
Common symptoms and next steps
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Key rejected or invalid-key message | Wrong channel or stream, an old key, or a key invalidated by reset | Copy the current key from the intended stream; if needed, reset it and replace every encoder’s saved value. |
| SSL certificate error or timeout | Server URL, RTMPS protocol support, or connection path | Confirm the current RTMPS URL and CameraFi’s RTMPS support; follow YouTube’s SSL-specific port 443 guidance only when relevant. |
| First-time setup cannot go live | Livestreaming activation or channel-specific verification | Confirm activation and verification for the particular channel; CameraFi says activation may take up to 24 hours. |
| Still fails with a fresh key and matching URL | CameraFi version, device/OS, selected channel, and manual-key versus direct-login flow | Send CameraFi support the exact error and these details without sending the key itself. |
When to contact CameraFi support
If the intended channel and stream are selected, the current key and matching URL are in the correct fields, livestreaming is enabled, and the error persists, ask CameraFi to interpret the exact message for your device and app version. CameraFi lists [email protected] for app questions. Include the full error text, selected channel, device and operating system, CameraFi version, and whether you used manual key entry or direct YouTube sign-in. Never include the stream key. The reviewed official guidance does not establish a unique internal cause for the exact wording “stream key rejected.”
