Larix Broadcaster can send an SRT contribution, but SRT support in the app does not mean YouTube is the SRT receiver. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS. Check your channel’s Live Control Room for its actual ingest choices; if it offers only RTMP/RTMPS, send SRT to a compatible relay and have that relay publish to YouTube, or use Larix’s direct RTMPS path. The receiver—not Larix alone—determines the correct SRT mode, address, port, stream ID, passphrase, and latency.

Can Larix Broadcaster send SRT directly to YouTube?

Larix supports SRT publishing in Push (Caller), Listener, and Rendezvous modes. These describe how Larix connects to an SRT receiver; they do not identify that receiver as YouTube. YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance documents RTMP/RTMPS, not a general SRT ingest endpoint. Check the intended channel’s Live Control Room rather than assuming a direct SRT address is available. YouTube Live Control Room settings and endpoint availability can vary by channel and rollout.

If the channel offers RTMP/RTMPS only, choose one of two paths: publish directly from Larix using the supported YouTube endpoint, or contribute SRT from Larix to a compatible relay that republishes to YouTube over a supported ingest protocol. The relay adds another service and another possible failure point, but gives you an SRT leg whose recovery settings can be matched to the receiver. No channel-specific SRT URL, port, stream ID, passphrase, or latency value can be prescribed without the receiver’s configuration.

Set up the SRT connection to match the receiver

  1. Confirm the destination first. Obtain the SRT listener address, port, and any required stream ID or passphrase from the receiving server or relay. If you are publishing to YouTube directly, use the endpoint and stream key shown in Live Control Room and select the protocol YouTube actually offers.
  2. Choose the connection mode the receiver requires. Larix offers Push (Caller), Listener, and Rendezvous. Caller/Push is a common choice when the phone initiates an outbound contribution to a server, but it is not universal; follow the receiver’s instructions and network topology.
  3. Enter only matching SRT parameters. Use the receiver’s address, port, stream ID, and encryption requirements. Larix supports SRT parameters such as stream ID, and Softvelum describes AES encryption support in its SRT product information. Exchange secrets securely and do not reuse a YouTube stream key as an SRT stream ID unless the receiving system explicitly requires that mapping.
  4. Set latency for the contribution link. SRT latency is the recovery window for lost packets, not YouTube’s viewer-latency setting. Softvelum describes SRT recovery within the configured latency period. Choose it from measured jitter/loss and receiver requirements; there is no universal number for every mobile network.
  5. Set a sustainable encode profile. Match codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to what the phone can encode continuously and the uplink can sustain. Leave network headroom rather than targeting the full measured upload rate.
  6. Test the whole route. Use representative movement and audio, check the receiver and YouTube preview/stream health, and monitor the encoder before relying on the stream. YouTube’s guidance says to test before starting a live stream.

Softvelum’s Larix guidance also says to use video+audio mode for connections, set a proper bitrate, and follow the receiver’s other recommendations.

Choose the YouTube-facing video and audio settings

YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends RTMPS and a two-second keyframe frequency, with a maximum of four seconds. These are settings for the YouTube-facing leg. Do not assume they automatically apply to the separate Larix-to-relay SRT leg; confirm what both the relay and receiver support.

H.264 profile in YouTube guidance Minimum video bitrate Recommended video bitrate
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

These are YouTube Help’s published H.264 figures, accessed in 2026; they are not guaranteed Larix output rates. YouTube advises choosing a quality the available connection can reliably sustain, testing with real movement and audio, and monitoring stream health. Its network tips recommend about 20% bandwidth headroom. Larix’s bitrate control differs by platform: Android uses a typed value, while iOS offers predefined values, and actual device encoding may differ from the nominal target.

Keep a mobile setup running for a 24/7 goal

A 24/7 stream is an operating requirement, not a setting that SRT or Larix can guarantee. Larix exposes reconnect controls, but continuous unattended operation also depends on the phone, operating system, power, heat, network, receiver, and YouTube route.

  • Use a suitable, device-compatible power supply and verify that the phone stays powered under sustained encoding load.
  • Check for heat buildup and possible thermal throttling during a representative long test; the cited Larix materials do not establish that a particular phone can avoid it.
  • Confirm that the operating system keeps Larix active and networking in the background. App suspension behavior is device- and OS-dependent.
  • Use a stable uplink with headroom and consider how the connection behaves if Wi-Fi or mobile data drops. Network failover is a separate design question from SRT mode.
  • Test recovery at each layer: Larix reconnect, SRT receiver or relay, and YouTube ingest. A reconnect control is not an uptime guarantee.
  • Monitor locally or remotely so a stopped feed, loss of audio, or failed reconnect is noticed rather than mistaken for a running stream.

Larix’s FAQ describes a reconnect timeout and a network-presence option. It also lists iOS-only no-network reconnect and idle/unsent-buffer thresholds. Check the current app version and platform-specific controls for their exact labels; none removes the need to test the full setup.

Protect the YouTube stream key

YouTube’s stream key is credential information used by an encoder to deliver a feed, and its settings are managed in Live Control Room. Treat the key as a secret: do not publish it in screenshots, share it in public chat, or place it in an exposed configuration. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder or relay that uses it.

Troubleshoot common connection and 24/7 failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check or change
Larix cannot connect over SRT Wrong mode, address, port, stream ID, passphrase, or unreachable receiver Compare every value with the receiver’s current configuration; confirm the receiver is listening and the network permits the connection.
SRT connects but YouTube shows no incoming feed The SRT receiver is not forwarding to YouTube, or the YouTube-facing ingest settings are wrong Check relay output status and the YouTube endpoint and stream key in Live Control Room. Confirm the relay publishes using a protocol YouTube offers.
Video stutters or drops during motion Insufficient sustained upload, excessive encode demand, or network variation Lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate; retain roughly 20% bandwidth headroom as YouTube recommends; test with representative motion.
Video freezes while the connection appears active Encoder, receiver, or relay stalled; recovery may not be occurring as expected Check encoder output and receiver/relay health, review SRT latency against observed network variation, and verify reconnect behavior with a controlled interruption.
The stream stops after the phone is left unattended Power interruption, heat, background suspension, or network loss Test the exact device and OS for an extended run; address power, heat, background behavior, and uplink continuity separately.
Unexpected delay to viewers SRT recovery latency has been confused with YouTube viewer latency, or the relay adds delay Check SRT latency on the contribution leg and the separate viewer-latency setting in YouTube. Measure the end-to-end route.
