CameraFi Live and Restream serve different jobs, and neither product’s available documentation establishes that it can guarantee a YouTube channel stays live continuously. CameraFi Live is the more direct fit for broadcasting from a phone, including productions with overlays or supported external cameras. Restream is the more relevant workflow to investigate when you want to connect YouTube as part of a multistream setup. If by “keep live” you mean looping uploaded video around the clock rather than running ordinary broadcasts, that is a different use case.
CameraFi Live vs Restream at a glance
| Need | Better fit to investigate | What the available documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Broadcast from a phone, with overlays or an external camera | CameraFi Live | CameraFi describes mobile streaming, overlays, and external-camera workflows. See CameraFi Live. |
| Connect YouTube as part of a multistream workflow | Restream | Restream documents connecting a YouTube channel through its service. The retrieved guide does not establish current plan limits. See Restream’s YouTube setup guide. |
| Keep an uploaded video looping on YouTube 24/7 without a home computer | StreamNeo | StreamNeo is built to loop uploaded videos from the cloud on YouTube, so a computer does not have to stay on. It supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with a first day free. |
This is a workflow comparison, not a controlled feature or reliability test. Choose based on what you are broadcasting and where you need to send it; do not treat either CameraFi or Restream as a proven 24/7 uptime solution.
What “keeping a YouTube channel live” can mean
Running a normal broadcast
If you are presenting, gaming, filming, or producing a scheduled live show, you need a capture and encoding workflow. CameraFi is phone-oriented. YouTube’s encoder workflow is designed for a production using encoding software or hardware, with the YouTube server URL and stream key entered into the encoder.
Sending a broadcast to more than one platform
Simulstreaming is a distribution choice, not the same thing as keeping a single YouTube broadcast running indefinitely. Restream’s guide covers adding YouTube to its service; YouTube also lists prerequisites for streaming across platforms.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Looping prerecorded video continuously
A continuously available channel built from uploaded recordings needs a way to play those files repeatedly and recover if the platform connection drops. The CameraFi and Restream pages cited here do not establish that either is a dedicated cloud video-looping service or promise uninterrupted uptime.
Which one should you choose?
Choose CameraFi Live for a phone-led production
CameraFi’s product description focuses on mobile streaming, overlays, and external cameras. That makes it the more straightforward option to investigate when your phone is the production center. Its guide describes signing in, choosing YouTube, entering stream details, and creating a stream. Confirm current device and platform compatibility before relying on a specific setup.

Choose Restream when multistreaming is the point
Restream’s YouTube guide explains how to add a channel through its setup flow. It says the person adding the channel must own it; a manager or editor is not sufficient for that flow. Check Restream’s current channel and plan limits directly before choosing a plan, because the cited guide does not establish them.
Choose StreamNeo for a cloud loop of uploaded video
For a YouTube channel that should loop uploaded videos while your computer is off, StreamNeo is the most directly relevant option here: it runs the stream in the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a first day free. It is for YouTube streams of uploaded video, not camera broadcasts or multistreaming.

Before you start: enable YouTube live streaming
YouTube live access is a prerequisite whichever broadcast workflow you choose. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. CameraFi’s July 11, 2025 guide repeats that timing and then walks through creating a YouTube stream in the app.
- Enable live streaming on the YouTube channel. If it is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours before expecting to go live. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Confirm you have the right account access. Restream’s YouTube connection flow requires the channel owner, not a manager or editor, to add the channel.
- Decide whether this is a one-platform broadcast or simulstream. YouTube’s cross-platform streaming guidance calls for a verified channel with live streaming enabled, active accounts in good standing on other platforms, and sufficient upload speed.
Set up a regular YouTube broadcast
With CameraFi Live
- Sign in to CameraFi Live and select YouTube as the destination.
- Set the stream details in the app, including the title and other details requested in its flow.
- Choose your capture setup. Use the phone camera for a phone-led broadcast, or check CameraFi’s current compatibility information if you plan to use an external camera.
- Create the stream and verify the YouTube preview before beginning the broadcast. CameraFi’s documented guide is at CameraFi’s July 11, 2025 YouTube Live guide.
With Restream
- Open Restream’s channel setup flow and choose YouTube to connect the channel.
- Authorize the channel as its owner. The cited Restream instructions say managers and editors cannot add the YouTube channel through this flow.
- Configure the broadcast in Restream’s workflow and check the destination preview before going live. For the current connection instructions, use Restream’s YouTube guide, updated July 9, 2026.
The retrieved Restream page is a YouTube connection guide, not a complete statement of every production option, current plan limit, or reliability guarantee.

With an encoder and YouTube stream key
- Open YouTube’s live control room and create or select the live stream you intend to use.
- Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key as a password: do not publish or share it.
- Set the encoder to a YouTube-compatible format. YouTube’s current encoding guidance recommends H.264 video, CBR, up to 60 fps, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), AAC or MP3 audio, and RTMPS for encrypted transport. Resolution and bitrate depend on the intended output and encoder; follow the values in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube to receive the feed and show the live preview. Check the preview and audio before sharing the stream link.
For simulstreaming, check the extra prerequisites
Sending one production to multiple platforms adds requirements beyond connecting YouTube. YouTube’s guidance says to verify the channel, enable live streaming, ensure accounts on the other platforms are active and in good standing, and have sufficient upload speed. It does not give a bandwidth figure for a particular resolution or number of destinations in the cited passage, so do not rely on a generic speed number: check the settings and requirements for your actual encoder and destinations.
Uptime, stream duration, and archives are different questions
The available CameraFi and Restream pages do not provide a comparative reliability study or a service-level uptime promise. YouTube and Restream state that YouTube automatically archives streams that run for under 12 hours. That is an archive rule, not a maximum stream duration or proof that a service can keep a channel live 24/7. Restream’s guide says YouTube has no duration limit, while the under-12-hour archive condition still applies.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
For an always-on channel, distinguish recovery from uninterrupted uptime: a stream can disconnect, fail to archive, or need intervention even when a service has a reconnect feature. The cited CameraFi and Restream documentation does not establish a comparative guarantee about these outcomes.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is continuous YouTube playback of uploaded videos rather than a live camera or presenter, StreamNeo takes three steps: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Files stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, then Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
Common setup problems and fixes
- YouTube will not let you go live: confirm live streaming is enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Restream cannot connect the channel: confirm the person completing the setup is the channel owner, rather than a manager or editor.
- The encoder does not appear live on YouTube: verify the server URL and stream key, then check that the encoder is sending content and that YouTube receives the feed.
- Video or audio is unstable: compare encoder output against YouTube’s current resolution-specific recommendations; confirm H.264, CBR, keyframe interval, and supported audio encoding.
- A multistream setup fails at another destination: check that each account is active and in good standing and that upload capacity is sufficient for your chosen output and destinations.
- You expect a 24/7 archive or proof of uptime: do not infer either from an under-12-hour archive rule. Confirm the service’s documented behavior for your use case.
Copyright, reused video, and monetization
Only stream video and audio you have the rights to use, including music, game footage where applicable, and material included in a playlist. A stream being prerecorded or continuously looped does not itself establish permission to use its contents. YouTube says live streams can be monetized when the channel is in the YouTube Partner Program; using a streaming tool does not itself confer monetization eligibility. Review YouTube’s current policies and the rights for each asset before broadcasting.
