Yes, but only with layered controls. A free-tier label, trial credit, or billing alert does not by itself make a public AI demo financially safe. Before sharing it, verify that the selected model is genuinely free for your account, separate the demo from production, keep credentials server-side, impose provider and application limits, and define what happens when a quota or spending boundary is reached. Alerts warn you; only an enforced limit can block requests, and even enforced limits may have a short measurement delay.
What “free” actually means for a cloud-AI demo
Cloud AI providers use “free” for several different arrangements. They are not interchangeable:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- A model-specific free tier: requests to a particular model remain free only within that model’s published rate and usage limits. Eligibility can depend on your account, project and region.
- Promotional credits: a balance pays for usage until it expires or reaches zero. The demo is not free; it is prepaid.
- A no-billing configuration: the provider does not have an attached payment method or active paid account for the project. This can prevent charges, but may also limit models, throughput or availability.
- A budget alert: the service emails or displays a warning after spending crosses a threshold. Traffic generally continues.
- An enforced cap: the provider rejects affected requests after tracked spend reaches a configured amount. Enforcement is safer than an alert, but propagation and accounting delays can permit some overage.
Read the selected model’s current eligibility and quota, not just the provider’s landing-page claim. Changing models, enabling image generation or tools, linking a different billing account, or moving a project to a higher tier can change the cost path without changing your application code.

Provider safeguards compared
The important questions are whether payment is attached, what the control covers, whether it stops requests, and how much usage can pass before it does so.

| Provider and control | Free or billed configuration | Alert versus enforcement | Scope, delay and tier behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI API spend alerts and hard limits | Not a universal free tier; API access can be billed under an organization or project. | Spend alerts notify while traffic continues. An enforced hard limit can stop affected requests when tracked spend reaches the amount. | Organization/project controls are not instantaneous; recorded spend can slightly exceed the configured amount. The project monthly spend setting is a soft threshold, not a stop. |
| Gemini API free tier and Prepay | Free access applies only to specified models within their free limits. Paid access requires linked billing; Prepay uses an added credit balance. | A zero Prepay balance stops API keys in every project linked to that billing account until credits are added. | Keys do not have independent billing. Projects sharing a billing account inherit its tier, rate limits and account caps. |
| Google Cloud spend-cap budget | Applies to covered billed usage rather than creating a model-specific free tier. | Budget alerts are sent at 50%, 80% and 100%. When an enforced cap applies, covered usage is paused for the rest of the budget period unless manually lifted. | The Gemini project spend-cap feature is experimental and has an approximately ten-minute overage latency period. |
| AWS Free Tier monitoring | Eligible services have service-specific free limits. Credits can cover some charges beyond those limits while they remain valid. | AWS automatically alerts at 85% of applicable Free Tier limits; the alert does not stop usage. | After eligible credits expire or are exhausted, usage above the free limit is billed at standard rates. A universal hard-stop behavior is not stated. |
The percentages and delay above are provider-documented control settings, not estimates of how often demos incur surprise bills. Google’s 50%, 80% and 100% thresholds and its “around a 10 minute latency period” are documented implementation details accessed October 13, 2026. AWS’s 85% threshold is likewise a notification point, not a no-charge guarantee.
OpenAI API: separate soft alerts from a hard stop
What the controls do
OpenAI distinguishes notifications from enforced limits. Its help documentation states: “Spend alerts send notifications without stopping API traffic. Hard spend limits can stop affected requests when tracked spend reaches the configured amount.” See Troubleshooting API usage and spend limits.
That distinction matters for a public demo. A project’s monthly spend threshold is described as a soft spending threshold; requests continue after it is crossed. The setting is useful for monitoring but is not a kill switch. Confirm the current organization and project limits in the API platform and configure an enforced hard limit when you need requests to fail at a boundary. OpenAI’s spend-limit guide describes the available configuration.

Plan for propagation and slight overage
OpenAI says changes to enforcement are not instantaneous. Usage already in flight, delayed accounting and propagation can allow recorded spend to slightly exceed the chosen amount. Set notification thresholds below the hard limit, keep the application’s own ceiling lower still, and avoid treating the provider limit as an exact monetary fuse.
Keep project boundaries meaningful
Put the demo in its own project or organization boundary rather than sharing a production project with a larger approved limit. A limit that covers several applications is only as safe as the busiest or most exposed one. Review the current project-management documentation after changing ownership, keys or billing arrangements.
Gemini API and Google Cloud: understand shared billing and prepaid balance
Free-tier eligibility is model-specific
Gemini’s documented Free Tier covers certain models within their free rate and usage limits. Paid access is associated with a linked billing account and tier status; do not infer that every Gemini model or feature is free because one model is listed in the Free Tier. The rate-limit documentation explains that usage history and billing status can affect tiers.

Prepay is a boundary, not an individual-key budget
Google documents a Prepay arrangement in which you add credits to a billing account. When the balance reaches zero, API keys in all projects linked to that billing account stop working until more credits are added. Keys do not carry separate billing settings; the project and its billing account determine the status and limits. Projects linked to the same billing account inherit that account’s usage tier and associated rate limits or account caps. Therefore, do not attach an unrelated production project to the demo’s billing account if a zero balance would interrupt it.

Project spend caps have a delay
Google marks the Gemini API project spend-cap feature as experimental and says users are subject to overages for around a ten-minute latency period. Treat the cap as a delayed boundary, not a precise maximum. Google Cloud Billing spend-cap budgets can alert at 50%, 80% and 100% of the target; when enforcement is enabled, covered usage is paused for the remainder of the budget period unless manually lifted. The control’s exact coverage should be checked in the budget configuration before launch.
Do not count on a welcome credit
Google says accounts opened after March 2, 2026 cannot use Google Cloud welcome credits for Gemini API or AI Studio usage. A newly opened cloud account therefore should not be assumed to offset Gemini calls simply because a general trial credit appears in the billing console.

AWS Free Tier: useful monitoring, no universal no-charge promise
AWS automatically emails when usage exceeds 85% of applicable Free Tier limits, and you can inspect usage in the console or through the Free Tier API. The alert tells you that the threshold was crossed; it does not disable the service. AWS also notes that eligible credits may cover some charges beyond a free limit, but once those credits expire or are fully consumed, further usage is billed at standard rates. Check each service’s free allowance, region and account eligibility before exposing an endpoint publicly. A demo that invokes several AWS services can exceed one allowance while another remains below its alert threshold.

Keep credentials off the client
Route calls through a server you control. Never put a provider secret in browser JavaScript, a downloadable game build, a public repository or a URL query string. Restrict the key or service identity to the demo’s project and required API operations, rotate it if exposure is suspected, and keep production credentials in a separate secret store.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Bound every expensive dimension
- Set per-user, per-IP and global request limits over a defined window.
- Cap prompt and conversation length before sending it to the model.
- Set a maximum output-token limit and a request timeout.
- Disable tools, image generation, audio, browsing or other costly features unless the demo requires them.
- Limit conversation history and reject oversized uploads.
- Use a bounded retry policy with exponential backoff; never retry indefinitely on quota, balance or spend-limit errors.
Choose a safe failure mode
When the provider returns a quota, balance or spending-limit error, show a plain “demo limit reached” message, stop automatic retries and log the event without exposing credentials or internal billing data. Do not silently switch to a more expensive model or a different billing account. If a fallback is essential, make it an explicitly cheaper, preapproved path with its own limit.
Launch procedure for a public demo
- Create an isolation boundary. Make a dedicated project or account for the demo. Keep it out of production billing groups and shared credentials.
- Record the exact model and feature set. Write down model name, region, enabled tools, image or audio features, quota and whether the account is Free Tier, Prepay or billed.
- Verify eligibility in the provider console. Confirm that the selected model is covered by the current free terms or that a payment method and credit balance are intentional.
- Configure provider notifications. Place alerts below the amount at which you would stop the demo so there is time to respond.
- Configure enforcement where available. Use an enforced hard limit or spend cap, not only a soft project threshold. Read its scope and documented delay.
- Apply server-side limits. Set request, token, feature, timeout and retry ceilings before opening the URL to anyone else.
- Test the limit path. In a controlled project, force a quota or balance error and confirm that the UI stops retrying, displays a useful message and does not invoke a paid fallback.
- Run a small paid-or-free trial. Send a known number of requests, then compare application logs with the provider’s usage and billing dashboards. This catches hidden retries and unexpected token growth.
- Watch after every change. Recheck usage after changing models, prompts, tools, billing account, account tier or traffic limits.
- Reassess before promotion. Public links attract bots and scripted traffic. Tighten quotas, add authentication or close the demo when the intended test load is complete.
Common failure scenarios and the right response
| What you observe | Likely reason | Immediate response |
|---|---|---|
| An alert arrives but requests still succeed. | The control is a notification or soft threshold. | Disable the demo or enforce a supported hard limit; do not wait for the alert to stop traffic. |
| Spend is slightly above the configured cap. | Accounting or enforcement propagation is delayed. | Keep application limits below the provider cap and investigate in-flight requests and retries. |
| Several projects stop at once when balance reaches zero. | They share one Gemini billing account and its Prepay balance. | Add credits or move the demo to an isolated billing account; review every linked project. |
| A supposedly free Gemini call requires billing. | The model or feature is outside the account’s Free Tier eligibility. | Switch to an eligible model or deliberately enable paid access with a cap. |
| AWS usage crosses 85% and the demo continues. | The 85% message is an alert, not a service shutdown. | Throttle or disable the application and check whether credits remain before further testing. |
| Usage spikes without many visible users. | Exposed keys, bots, replayed requests or unbounded retries. | Revoke exposed credentials, add authentication and rate limits, and inspect logs before reopening. |
How to decide whether your demo is safe enough
A free demo is reasonable to publish when all three layers agree: the provider configuration has no unintended billing path, an enforced boundary or prepaid balance limits the account, and the application rejects excess work before it reaches the provider. If any layer is missing, assume that a public URL can create charges. The safest launch is therefore not “free tier enabled,” but “isolated project, server-side key, bounded application, monitored account and tested failure behavior.”
