Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Yes, with an important qualification: a prerecorded video sent through an encoder as an actual YouTube Live broadcast may use automatic live mid-roll ads if the channel and broadcast are eligible and monetization is enabled. YouTube documents both prerecorded-media streaming to Live and automatic ads on eligible live streams, but does not explicitly guarantee that every prerecorded broadcast qualifies. Check the Monetization controls for the specific broadcast in YouTube Studio.
What counts as a prerecorded live stream?
The video must be transmitted as a YouTube Live broadcast, rather than simply uploaded as an ordinary video or presented as a Premiere. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes scheduling prerecorded media to stream directly to YouTube Live: YouTube Help: Stream using an encoder. Its live monetization guidance describes mid-roll settings for eligible live streams: YouTube Help: Monetize your live stream.
Those two documented capabilities support a qualified yes for prerecorded feeds. The specific connection—that every prerecorded feed gets the same live-ad eligibility—is not expressly stated in YouTube’s guidance, so verify the controls on your scheduled or active broadcast.
Check eligibility and turn on automatic mid-rolls
- Set up an actual live broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then start or schedule a broadcast. Use an encoder workflow that sends the prerecorded media to YouTube Live.
- Open the broadcast’s settings. In the live control room, open Edit → Monetization. YouTube’s labels or control placement may change, so follow the current Studio interface if it differs.
- Confirm monetization is on. The channel and the specific live stream must be eligible for monetization. If the Monetization section or ad controls are unavailable, the broadcast may not meet the requirements or the feature may not be available for that stream.
- Choose Automatic for live ad settings. YouTube says automatic placement aims for natural breakpoints. It may also offer scheduled or manual live ad breaks.
YouTube describes the live options in its live monetization help. Scheduled breaks can be set at intervals from 6 to 30 minutes; manual breaks require the creator to insert them. YouTube recommends automatic placement, while noting scheduled or manual choices may have lower earnings potential.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Automatic, scheduled, or manual: which should you choose?
| Mode | Who controls timing? | Practical trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | YouTube chooses placements, aiming for natural breakpoints. | Least operational work; YouTube recommends this option. Ads are not guaranteed to serve. |
| Scheduled | You set a recurring interval, from 6 to 30 minutes. | Provides a regular cadence, but requires choosing an interval; YouTube cautions earnings potential may be lower than automatic. |
| Manual | You insert ad breaks during the stream. | Most direct timing control and most creator attention; YouTube cautions earnings potential may be lower than automatic. |
Even with automatic placement, an ad slot is not a promise that an ad will be shown. Viewers can also see ads at different times. YouTube’s wording is that it shows mid-roll ads at natural breakpoints during a live stream; actual serving depends on the viewing and ad circumstances.
Do the eight-minute rule and ordinary video settings apply?
Do not use the ordinary uploaded-video threshold as the live-stream rule. YouTube’s guidance for standard monetized videos says mid-rolls are available on videos at least eight minutes long, with settings managed for the individual video: YouTube Help: Manage mid-roll ad breaks in long videos. Live mid-rolls instead use the eligible broadcast’s live monetization settings. The eight-minute threshold is not established as a requirement for live mid-rolls.

What YouTube’s revenue figure does—and does not—mean
YouTube reports that creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour. YouTube says this comparison covered 207 countries in January 2024 and compared channels with automatic live mid-rolls enabled against channels without the feature: YouTube Help: Monetize your live stream. It is a platform-reported group comparison, not a guaranteed result, an individual earnings forecast, or proof that enabling the setting caused the difference.
Troubleshooting when automatic ads are unavailable or do not appear
- No Monetization controls: Confirm you are editing the live broadcast in YouTube Studio, not the uploaded source file, and check whether the channel and stream are eligible for monetization.
- Automatic is not selectable: Review the stream’s monetization status and current live settings. YouTube does not publish a separate universal eligibility rule for prerecorded feeds, so the specific broadcast’s Studio controls are the practical check.
- No ad appears at a particular moment: Automatic placement does not guarantee an ad slot will serve. Allow for variation in ad availability and viewer timing rather than assuming the stream setup failed.
- You are looking for an eight-minute threshold: That threshold belongs to YouTube’s documented guidance for ordinary long-form videos, not the live mid-roll guidance.
- The Studio labels look different: Use the current live control room’s broadcast edit and monetization settings; interface availability and controls can change.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are streaming prerecorded video as a YouTube Live broadcast, StreamNeo is a cloud service that loops uploaded videos to YouTube: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. StreamNeo supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and gives the first day free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. This changes how the video is kept live; it does not guarantee YouTube monetization or ad serving. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
