Not in the usual sense. PS5SX2, an unofficial PCSX2 port for jailbroken PS5 consoles, adds experimental frame generation: with a 120 Hz display and steady gameplay, it can show a 60 fps game at 120 Hz or a 30 fps game at 60 Hz. That is generated display output, not a claim that PS2 games are natively rendered at 120 fps.
What “up to 120 FPS” means here
The PS5 Homebrew Store lists PS5SX2 version 2.00, build vk-285-139, updated October 8, 2026. Its release notes describe experimental frame generation and say it operates only while a game’s frame rate is steady. The notes state: “On a 120 Hz TV a 60 fps game is shown at 120 and a 30 fps game is shown at 60.” PS5 Homebrew Store

That distinction matters: the game still renders at its own frame rate, while the emulator generates additional displayed frames. It does not turn a game designed to run at 30 fps into native 120 fps gameplay. Nor does the release note promise smooth results when a game’s frame rate fluctuates.
What you need to run PS5SX2
PS5SX2 is homebrew software, not a feature in the standard PS5 interface. The project README lists a jailbroken PS5 and the PS5SX2 Helper payload, loaded with kstuff, as requirements. Sony does not offer general PS2 disc compatibility on PS5. Sony also warns that installing update data from another source or by another method, or using a console that has been altered or modified, may cause the console to malfunction or prevent it from installing official updates. Sony says these actions can void warranty and affect warranty or repair services. This is Sony’s stated warning, not a specific claim that using PS5SX2 automatically triggers an account ban. What performance to expect
Frame rate depends on the game
According to the PS5SX2 performance guide, many PS2 games were designed for 30 fps, or 25 fps on PAL discs. Some titles have optional 60 fps patches. Those patches can raise the workload on both the CPU and GPU, so a title may need a lower resolution or other settings changes to run acceptably. PS5SX2 performance guide

The project’s guide says a standard PS5 or PS5 Slim has less graphics power than a PS5 Pro. It says demanding games on those systems often need 3x or 4x resolution, while a Pro runs many games at 6x. These are the project’s guidance, not independent benchmark results; an individual game’s performance can differ.

Compatibility is title-specific
The project’s test table includes results across games, console models and firmware, with examples around 30 fps and 60 fps as well as dips and short test sessions. Its notes distinguish running at full speed from the game’s displayed frame rate and caution that patched games may require lower resolution. Those entries can help indicate whether a particular game has been tried, but they do not establish a library-wide success rate or guarantee an untested title will work. How to decide whether the feature is useful
Consider these factors together rather than treating 120 as a universal performance rating:

- Display: The release notes specify a 120 Hz TV for the 120 Hz output. A compatible display does not remove the jailbreak requirement or guarantee game compatibility.
- Game and patch: Check the project’s test entries for your title. If you want to use an optional 60 fps patch, account for its higher CPU and GPU workload.
- PS5 model, firmware and resolution: The project’s results are tied to specific hardware and firmware conditions, and resolution choices affect performance.
- Stability: The experimental frame-generation feature is described as working only when the game’s rate is steady.
Is PS5SX2 guaranteed to support every PS2 game?
No. The project README says updates are planned to roll out weekly as the developers work toward full compatibility across the PS2 library. That is a statement of intent, not a guarantee that every game works now or that a weekly schedule will be met. The project’s title-by-title tests are not an independently published aggregate compatibility statistic.
