Yes. A scheduled YouTube broadcast can use a stream key different from a reusable custom key. If you choose Reuse settings, YouTube copies the earlier stream’s key along with its other settings—but you can review and change the scheduled stream’s settings. Make sure your encoder uses the URL and key selected for that scheduled broadcast.
Reusable key vs. Reuse settings: what’s the difference?
A custom stream key is a key you can select again for future streams. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Reuse settings is a scheduling shortcut. It copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key. It does not automatically create or select a fresh key. Review the scheduled event’s settings after reusing a setup; YouTube says you can edit settings when scheduling and after using Reuse settings. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Schedule the broadcast and select its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live, then select the Manage tab and choose Schedule stream.
- Choose Create new for a new setup, or Reuse settings to copy an earlier stream. If you reuse settings, expect the prior key to be copied too.
- Review the scheduled stream’s settings and select the key you intend to use. YouTube documents that settings can be edited when scheduling and changed after reuse. To create a reusable custom key, go to Select stream key → Create new stream key, set its preferences, then select it from the key list. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- In your encoder, enter the stream URL and key associated with the scheduled broadcast. Start sending video and wait for its preview to appear in Live Control Room; then click Go live. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Check the encoder before going live
The scheduled event and encoder must use matching connection details. If the preview does not appear, confirm that the encoder has the URL and key for this event—not a key left over from another stream—and that it is sending video. Once the preview is present, use Go live in Live Control Room to start the scheduled broadcast.

If the key may be compromised
YouTube documents resetting a stream key in Live Control Room. Only a channel owner or manager may reset it. After resetting, update the encoder with the new key; an encoder still using the old key will not match the updated stream setup. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Special case: dual streams
For third-party encoder dual streaming, YouTube documents selecting a second key for the vertical stream and checking that the correct format is sent to each key. That is a specific dual-stream setup, not a requirement for an ordinary scheduled broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
