Yes. You can send a prerecorded video to YouTube as a livestream and have it repeat, using an encoder or a service that supplies the feed. YouTube’s watch-page Loop control is different: it repeats playback for a viewer and does not turn a regular video into a livestream. If you want a channel to appear live while the video repeats, the repeating must happen in the stream source.

How to stream a repeating video

YouTube’s encoder workflow lets you create or open a livestream in Live Control Room, then send video and audio from an encoder. YouTube explains that “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” Its documentation covers software and hardware encoders; the right choice depends on whether you want to run the source yourself or use a service that provides an encoded feed. YouTube’s encoder setup guide also lists a third-party service described as supporting 24/7 livestreaming of prerecorded videos. That listing establishes this type of service exists, not that YouTube endorses a particular provider.

  1. Check channel eligibility and rights. Make sure the channel can livestream and that you have the rights to broadcast the video, music, and any other included material. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility and restriction rules apply to prerecorded streams too. Review YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions and its live-streaming eligibility requirements.
  2. Create or open the livestream. In YouTube Live Control Room, set up the broadcast and use the stream details YouTube provides to connect the encoder. Follow the encoder’s instructions for entering the stream key; treat that key as private because it authorizes a feed to your broadcast.
  3. Configure a repeating source. Set the encoder or streaming service to play the prerecorded file or playlist continuously. Confirm that it loops back to the beginning rather than stopping after one pass, and check that the audio and picture continue across the transition.
  4. Start the encoder and monitor the live broadcast. Confirm in YouTube that the stream is receiving a picture and sound, then check it during the event. YouTube recommends monitoring encoder-stream quality and says to stop the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube; its guidance does not promise an all-day stream will remain uninterrupted. See YouTube’s encoder monitoring guidance.

Software encoding is an option if you can keep a suitable computer running; hardware encoding is another option if you want dedicated equipment. Neither is required for every setup. YouTube’s documentation establishes both paths, but does not establish that one has better reliability or performance for every creator.

What changes when the stream runs all day

Monitoring still matters

A long broadcast can encounter an encoder, network, power, or source-file problem. Keep an eye on YouTube’s live status and the outgoing picture and audio; do not treat “24/7” as a guarantee that a particular stream will never drop. YouTube recommends monitoring an encoder stream, rather than promising uninterrupted operation.

Replay and rewind are not guaranteed beyond 12 hours

YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24-hour broadcast therefore is not guaranteed to produce a complete replay. YouTube also says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for livestreams longer than 12 hours. Read YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Copyright and policy apply to every loop

Repeating content does not change the rights needed to broadcast it. Confirm that you can use the footage, soundtrack, and any other material for a livestream, and comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube lists copyright matches and other policy issues among reasons it may restrict live streaming.

Common problems and what to check

  • The regular video repeats, but the channel is not live: You used YouTube’s viewer Loop control. Set up a livestream in Live Control Room and send a repeating source through an encoder or streaming service instead. YouTube describes Loop as a watch-page playback feature: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
  • The broadcast stops after one play: Check that repeat or playlist playback is enabled in the encoder or service, and confirm the source is not configured to stop at the end of the file.
  • YouTube receives no picture or sound: Check that the encoder is connected to the correct livestream and that its stream key matches the one shown for that event. Verify the encoder’s outgoing video and audio, then check YouTube’s live status.
  • The stream drops during a long session: Check the encoder, computer or hardware, network connection, power, and source playback. YouTube’s guidance calls for monitoring; it does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
  • The replay is incomplete or missing: If the broadcast exceeded 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured at all. Do not rely on a 24-hour stream to create a complete archive; DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable past that threshold.
  • The livestream is restricted: Check channel eligibility, YouTube policy notices, and copyright status for the video and audio. A prerecorded source is still subject to live-stream rules and rights requirements.
