To play local video files one after another during a YouTube livestream, add them to an OBS Studio VLC Video source in the order you want, turn off shuffle, and choose whether the playlist should loop. This workflow is the same for creators in India as elsewhere; it sends the videos through your outgoing live broadcast rather than changing a regular YouTube playlist.
Does a YouTube playlist make videos play inside a livestream?
No. Reordering videos in a YouTube playlist changes the order of that playlist, not the video being sent to viewers in your live broadcast. YouTube documents dragging playlist videos up or down to reorder them, but that is a separate control from the outgoing live video: YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists.
For local files in a live scene, OBS documents a VLC Video source with playlist controls. YouTube’s HLS ingestion documentation describes yet another kind of playlist: ordered segments that an encoder sends for YouTube to reassemble into a live stream, not a creator-facing queue of finished videos: YouTube Live HLS ingestion.
Set up an ordered video playlist in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well. See the OBS VLC Video Source guide.
- Choose the broadcast scene. In OBS, select the scene that will be sent to YouTube, or create one for the video sequence.
- Add a VLC Video source. In the Sources panel, select +, choose VLC Video, and create the source.
- Add and order the files. Add the video files to the source playlist in the intended sequence. Leave Shuffle Playlist off so OBS follows that sequence.
- Choose whether to loop. Enable Loop Playlist if playback should start again from the first file after the last one. Turn it off if the sequence should end after the final file.
- Check the scene before going public. Preview the picture and listen to the audio in a private or unlisted rehearsal. Confirm the files play in the desired order and that the loop behavior is right for your broadcast.
- Send the scene to YouTube. Start the YouTube broadcast using your usual OBS streaming setup. The VLC Video source supplies the ordered playback as part of the live scene.
Playing just one file
For a single video, OBS’s Media Source can add a video file to a scene. It does not provide the same multi-file playlist controls described for VLC Video.

Use only video you have the rights to livestream
YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” — YouTube Help, “Copyright issues with live streams”.
If YouTube identifies third-party material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder; continued use can lead to interruption or termination. For licensed third-party content, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Having a license alone does not guarantee the live stream will avoid interruption. Use footage, music and other material only when your rights cover public livestreaming.

Alternative: a hosted prerecorded playlist
Restream’s help page describes a hosted option: upload or select multiple videos, arrange them by drag-and-drop, and stream the playlist. Its documentation ties access to specified Upload & Stream add-on tiers, Marathon or Media. Since feature packaging can change, check Restream’s current plan details before relying on this option: Restream: How to create a pre-recorded stream.
OBS keeps playback control on your computer; a hosted playlist moves that work to a service. The documented options do not establish a detailed price or performance comparison, so compare the current plan terms and workflow before choosing.
