Yes—an Intel NUC can send prerecorded video to YouTube Live continuously if that particular model can encode your chosen video settings and its power and internet connection remain reliable. The name “NUC” alone does not identify a performance level: check the exact unit and test it with the video and settings you plan to use before relying on it unattended.
What determines whether your NUC can handle it?
A NUC can host software that sends a prerecorded video or playlist to YouTube Live. Whether it can do so reliably depends on the exact processor and graphics configuration, the resolution and frame rate, encoder and codec, bitrate, cooling, and available upload capacity. There is no universal minimum NUC model established for this job.
Identify the exact model and encoding capability
- Find the NUC’s product code on the device or its documentation, then look up that exact model in Intel’s NUC product identification guidance and corresponding specifications. Assess the installed processor, memory, operating system, graphics configuration, and cooling against your intended workload.
- Check whether Intel Quick Sync is available and selectable in your encoder. Intel describes it as hardware video acceleration, but availability depends on the processor graphics being enabled and on the device configuration; it is not a capability to assume from the NUC name.
- Run a sustained test with the actual video, audio, loop or playlist behavior, and intended settings. Check for encoder overload, dropped frames, overheating, and interruption rather than treating a brief successful start as proof of 24/7 reliability.
Configure YouTube Live and the encoder
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS video using H.264, HEVC, or AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Match the bitrate to both the source and the connection, and confirm the current YouTube Live encoder settings when setting up because platform guidance can change.
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream and select the encoder workflow. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or include it in a screen recording.
- Choose an output resolution and frame rate your NUC can sustain. If you are uncertain, begin with a lower, conservative setting and test before raising it. YouTube transcodes live streams for viewers, but that does not remove the need for a stable encoder output.
- Set the encoder to H.264, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval as a practical starting point. Select a bitrate appropriate to your resolution and frame rate using YouTube’s current guidance; do not set it higher than the connection can reliably upload.
- Start sending the stream and check YouTube Studio’s stream health and the public or unlisted watch page. Confirm picture, sound, and loop transitions at the viewer end.
Plan for internet, power, and interruptions
The NUC is only one part of a continuous broadcast. YouTube advises leaving upload headroom: its network guidance says, “Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” Treat this as YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee that every connection will withstand congestion or outages. If other devices share the connection, their traffic can reduce the capacity available to the stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Test from the same network and at the same time of day you expect to stream, including representative household or office network use.
- For unattended operation, plan how you will recover from a power cut, encoder crash, operating-system restart, or internet outage. Automatic application restart, remote access, and a resilient connection can help, but they do not guarantee uninterrupted broadcasting.
- Monitor stream health during the extended test and verify that the encoder resumes sending after any interruption you deliberately test. YouTube recommends testing settings and checking stream health; recovery arrangements for the NUC itself are your responsibility.
Check channel eligibility and content rights
YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The material you broadcast must also comply with YouTube’s policies and applicable rights requirements. A video being prerecorded or looped does not itself establish that you have permission to use its music, footage, or other content. Review YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and Community Guidelines before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
Will YouTube archive a 24/7 stream?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its documentation does not promise automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or longer, so do not plan on a single 24-hour broadcast producing one automatic archive. If you need a replay, verify YouTube’s current behavior and make a separate recording or shorter-session plan that suits your needs.

Use the NUC or move the stream to the cloud?
Keeping the stream on a NUC makes sense if you already own a suitable model and are willing to maintain its power, software, network, monitoring, and recovery. YouTube’s encoder options include computer software, cloud services, and dedicated encoders; the right workflow depends on whether you want to manage a local machine or avoid keeping one running at home.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.

Troubleshooting a NUC stream
- YouTube does not receive video: Confirm the encoder is using the correct stream URL and current stream key, then check that the stream is set up in YouTube Studio and the encoder is actually sending.
- Stream health reports instability or frames drop: Check encoder load and reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate; then retest. Confirm upload capacity and leave YouTube’s recommended headroom, especially if the connection is shared.
- Quick Sync is missing or cannot be selected: Check the exact NUC configuration and whether processor graphics are enabled. Quick Sync availability is configuration-dependent; use a supported encoder path or a lower workload if hardware acceleration is unavailable.
- The stream stops after a power or network event: Identify whether the NUC, encoder, router, or ISP connection failed. Configure and test an appropriate restart or reconnection plan, and arrange remote monitoring if you cannot be present.
- No automatic replay appears for a long broadcast: A 24/7 stream is beyond YouTube’s documented under-12-hour automatic archive condition. Use a separate recording workflow or shorter sessions if an archive is required.
