Possibly—but “old gaming PC” alone cannot tell you whether it will work. The PC must decode the playlist and encode it at 3840×2160 and 60 fps in real time, while its internet connection sustains the chosen upload bitrate. YouTube’s current guidance lists 35 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate for 4K60, or 10–40 Mbps for AV1 and H.265/HEVC. Those are encoder settings, not a guarantee that a particular PC or Indian broadband connection can sustain a stream.
What determines whether the PC can manage 4K60?
There are three separate tests: the computer must produce the video frames on time, the encoder must compress them without falling behind, and the connection must deliver the stream steadily to YouTube. A PC that can play a 4K video is not necessarily able to encode that video as a 4K60 live stream.
- Decoding and playback: The PC has to read the playlist files and feed frames to the encoder at the target frame rate.
- Encoding: The CPU or a supported hardware encoder must encode the frames in real time. Hardware encoding can move work from the CPU to a specialized component in the GPU, but the available encoders and codecs depend on the specific hardware. OBS explains hardware encoding and its performance considerations.
- Network: The outbound connection needs steady capacity above the configured stream bitrate, with room for other traffic and any backup stream.
- Playlist workflow: The streaming software must advance or loop the playlist as intended, and keep its audio and video running through the planned broadcast.
Before changing parts or subscribing to faster internet, identify the exact CPU, GPU, operating system, streaming-software version and encoder options the software offers. Check which codecs that particular machine can encode in real time. YouTube accepting AV1 or H.265 does not mean an older GPU can encode either one.
What YouTube settings does 4K60 require?
YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance lists the following 4K60 values. They describe settings for sending a stream to YouTube, not measured upload speeds for every network or a hardware requirement for every PC.

YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, at up to 60 fps. Select only a codec that both your encoder and YouTube’s ingest workflow support. At 4K60, YouTube’s guidance calls for normal latency rather than the low-latency option.
OBS’s best-results guidance recommends Turing-generation NVENC, but that recommendation is not a universal minimum specification for every 4K60 stream. Actual performance depends on the full system, the encoder and codec selected, the source video, software settings and other work running on the PC. Check which hardware encoder OBS exposes on your system rather than assuming a GPU supports a codec because it is listed by YouTube.

How much upload speed do you need in India?
Use the configured stream bitrate as the baseline, then leave margin. YouTube’s streaming tips advise allowing about 20% room above the bitrate and accounting for the total load: primary stream, any backup stream and headroom. For example, a 35 Mbps H.264 stream needs more than 35 Mbps of stable outbound capacity; a peak speed-test result at that rate is not enough to establish reliability.
Measure upload from the PC and network that will actually run the stream, ideally at likely broadcast times. Outbound capacity can differ from download speed. Household use, Wi-Fi conditions, ISP routing and local congestion can all affect whether the connection stays stable. No nationwide Indian upload figure can determine the result for an individual connection.

- Prefer a stable wired connection if Wi-Fi is the weak link. A cable may improve the link between PC and router, but it cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by the ISP.
- Avoid relying on a single speed test or the advertised plan speed as proof of sustained live-stream capacity.
- Include any simultaneous stream or backup in the total upload calculation.
How to test a playlist before going live
- Record your system details. Note the CPU, GPU, operating system and streaming-software version, then inspect the software’s available hardware encoders and supported codecs.
- Choose a compatible codec and bitrate. For 4K60, use YouTube’s bitrate guidance above and confirm the selected PC encoder can sustain the codec in real time.
- Set the output mode. Configure 3840×2160 resolution, 60 fps, constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval. Use normal latency for 4K60.
- Check the actual upload link. Test from the broadcast PC and leave room above the selected bitrate for other traffic and any backup.
- Test the real playlist. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guidance to create and preview a stream. Use the same playlist, motion, audio and expected duration as the intended broadcast; confirm that the software advances or loops it as you need.
- Monitor the run. Look for dropped frames, encoder overload, network instability, audio problems or interruptions between playlist items. A brief preview is not a substitute for testing over a representative duration.
- Reduce the output if it is unstable. Test 1440p60 or 1080p60 using YouTube’s published settings, then choose the highest mode that remains stable in an end-to-end run.
Common problems and fixes
- Encoder overload or missed frames: The PC cannot encode the current output reliably under the test workload. Confirm the encoder and codec in use, close unnecessary workloads, or test 1440p60 or 1080p60.
- Network-dropped frames: The connection may lack sustained upload headroom or may be unstable. Test at the broadcast location and time, account for competing traffic, and try wired networking if Wi-Fi is unreliable.
- AV1 or HEVC is unavailable or too slow: YouTube’s support for a codec does not establish hardware encoding support on the PC. Select a codec exposed by the encoder, or use a different output mode that the system can sustain.
- Playlist stops, repeats incorrectly or has gaps: Playlist behavior depends on the streaming software and workflow; YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not guarantee how every app handles playlists. Test the complete playlist behavior before the public broadcast and change the software or playlist configuration if needed.
- Settings look right but the stream is still unreliable: A selected resolution and bitrate do not prove that the PC and connection can sustain them. Use a representative test and lower the output mode if dropped frames, overload or network instability persist.
Check rights and YouTube channel rules
Before streaming a playlist, make sure you have the rights needed for its video and audio. A video being available online does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Copyright claims or restrictions can affect a live stream or its availability. Also consider whether the channel’s content meets YouTube’s policies, including its rules for reused content where relevant; technical settings do not resolve rights or channel-policy issues.
