Yes. A family can use selected PlayStation Plus benefits on the same console when the subscriber enables the console-sharing setting on a PS5 or designates one PS4 as the subscriber’s primary console. Other local users can play eligible downloaded games, but they do not receive ownership of the games or the ability to redeem PS Plus titles on their own accounts.
What the sharing arrangement actually does
PlayStation Plus benefits follow the subscriber’s account, but Sony allows certain benefits to be used by other accounts on specifically enabled consoles. The console, rather than every individual family account, is the boundary for the supported arrangement.

On PS5, the subscriber enables Console Sharing and Offline Play. Once enabled, anyone who uses that PS5 can play games and media the subscriber has purchased and downloaded, even when the console is offline, and can use selected PlayStation Plus benefits. On PS4, the subscriber activates one console as their primary PS4. PlayStation describes the supported combination as one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play activated and one PS4 activated as the subscriber’s primary PS4.

This is a license-sharing arrangement, not a transfer of the subscription. The other account does not become a PlayStation Plus subscriber, and the subscription remains controlled by the account that paid for it.

How to share PS Plus on one PS5
The subscriber must make the change while signed in to the account that owns the PlayStation Plus membership and the downloaded games.
- On the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Open Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
After activation, other users of that PS5 can use the qualifying games and benefits that the subscriber has made available there. PlayStation allows Console Sharing and Offline Play on one PS5 at a time. Enabling it on a different PS5 moves the sharing arrangement rather than creating a permanent entitlement on every console connected to the account.
What the PS5 user should download
The subscriber should sign in and download the game that the household wants to play. The supported benefit concerns games the subscriber has downloaded or purchased; it does not let another account independently claim a monthly game to its own library. Once the eligible title is present on the enabled PS5, another local user can launch it with that user’s own account, subject to the game’s age and parental-control restrictions.

PS4 uses different wording and a different activation path. Sign in to the subscriber’s account on the console, then:
- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4.
- Confirm the activation.
Only one PS4 can be associated as the subscriber’s primary PS4 for this purpose. Other users on that primary console can access the qualifying downloaded games and selected PlayStation Plus benefits. The PS4 setting is separate from the PS5 setting, so the supported arrangement can include one enabled PS5 and one primary PS4.
Which games and benefits family members can use
PlayStation’s sharing rules cover specific benefits, not every feature that appears on the subscriber’s account. The following table separates the supported uses from the limits that commonly cause confusion.

| Benefit or activity | Available to another account on the enabled console? | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Online multiplayer | Yes | Available on the enabled PS5 or the subscriber’s primary PS4, subject to parental controls. |
| Downloaded Monthly Plus games | Yes | The subscriber must have downloaded the eligible game; the other account cannot redeem it separately. |
| Games downloaded after a PS Plus discount | Yes | The subscriber’s account made the discounted purchase and downloaded the game. |
| PlayStation Plus catalog games | Yes, when the plan includes the title | Availability depends on the subscriber’s membership plan and the title’s catalog eligibility. |
| PlayStation Plus classic catalog titles | Yes, when the plan includes the title | The title must be included in the subscriber’s plan. |
| Subscriber’s purchased and downloaded games | Yes | Console Sharing and Offline Play or primary-PS4 activation must be correctly configured. |
“Downloaded” matters because the sharing rule applies to games the subscriber has obtained on the account and made available on the designated console. A family member cannot use their own account to convert a monthly claim into a separate, independent license.
What family members cannot share
The arrangement has several deliberate boundaries:
- Redeeming PS Plus games: another account cannot add the subscriber’s Monthly Plus or catalog entitlement to its own library by using the shared console.
- Buying with the subscriber’s discount: the other account cannot use the subscriber’s PlayStation Plus discount to purchase products for that account.
- Online storage: the subscriber’s PlayStation Plus cloud storage is not shared with other accounts.
- Automatic patch downloads: another account does not inherit the subscriber’s automatic patch-download benefit through console sharing.
- Early access to time-limited trials: the subscriber’s early-access entitlement for these trials is not passed to the other account.
These restrictions explain why a family member may be able to play a downloaded game but still see no PlayStation Plus badge, no claim button, or no access to the subscriber’s cloud saves and account-level offers.
PS5 and PS4: the practical differences
| Question | PS5 | PS4 |
|---|---|---|
| Required setting | Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play > Enable | Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4 |
| Designated console | One PS5 at a time | One primary PS4 |
| Who can use the games? | Other users of the enabled PS5 | Other users of the primary PS4 |
| Downloaded Monthly Plus or catalog games | Shareable when eligible and downloaded by the subscriber | Shareable when eligible and downloaded by the subscriber |
| Purchased games | Shareable after the subscriber purchases and downloads them | Shareable after the subscriber purchases and downloads them |
| Age and parental controls | Can restrict access | Can restrict access |
The console generation changes the menu label, but not the central idea: the subscriber designates a console, and other accounts using that console receive only the benefits Sony marks as shareable.
Can two accounts play the same PS Plus game?
Yes, when both users are on the same PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled, or on the subscriber’s primary PS4, and the title is an eligible downloaded game. Each person should use their own local PlayStation account for saves, trophies and personal settings. The game license still belongs to the subscriber’s account.
Sharing does not mean that two accounts can each claim the same Monthly Plus game. If the subscriber removes the title, changes the designated console, or the title is no longer available under the membership plan, the other account’s access can be affected. PlayStation’s documentation does not describe a separate, permanent license being created for the second account.

Console sharing does not bypass family-safety settings. A child account can be prevented from launching a title because of its age rating or the parental controls configured for that account, even when the game itself is correctly shared. Online multiplayer is also subject to those controls.

That means a failed launch is not automatically evidence that sharing is broken. Check whether the blocked account is permitted to play the game, whether the title’s rating exceeds the account’s allowed level, and whether online features are restricted.
Sharing with a friend on another console
PlayStation does not support treating a friend’s separate console as an additional family-sharing destination. The documented arrangement is limited to accounts on one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play activated and the subscriber’s primary PS4.
Putting the subscriber’s account on another person’s console does not create a second supported PS5 sharing location. If Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on another PS5, it is moved from the previous PS5. The primary-PS4 rule likewise permits one designated PS4, not an unlimited number of consoles.

Console sharing is not Share Play
The names sound similar, but the features solve different problems.
| Feature | How it works | Best use | Time or location limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Console Sharing and Offline Play | Makes selected purchased and PlayStation Plus benefits available to other users of the same enabled PS5. | Household members who use one console regularly. | Persistent on one enabled PS5, with a separate primary-PS4 designation. |
| Share Play | Streams the host’s game session to a visitor or hands the visitor control of that session. | Letting someone join a session remotely or try a game without owning it. | On PS5, a Share Play session lasts one hour. |
Share Play is not a way to install the subscriber’s PS Plus library on another account. Its play-together mode requires PlayStation Plus for both participants, and the session remains a streamed or shared-control visit rather than ongoing access to the host’s downloaded games.

- Verify the account: confirm that the account signed in during setup is the one that owns the PlayStation Plus membership or purchased the game.
- Verify the console setting: on PS5, return to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play and confirm that it is enabled. On PS4, confirm that the console is activated as the subscriber’s primary PS4.
- Check the title’s source: determine whether it is a downloaded Monthly Plus game, a catalog title included in the subscriber’s plan, or a game purchased by the subscriber after a discount.
- Check membership-plan eligibility: catalog and classic titles must be included in the subscriber’s current plan. A game that is not part of that plan cannot be made available through the sharing setting.
- Check the download: the subscriber should have downloaded the game on the designated console. The other account cannot redeem the title independently as a substitute.
- Check family restrictions: review the affected account’s age rating and parental-control permissions, especially for online multiplayer.
- Check which PS5 is enabled: if Console Sharing and Offline Play was enabled on a different PS5, the current console may no longer be the designated sharing device.
If all of these conditions are satisfied and the title remains locked, the issue is likely tied to the game’s eligibility or the account’s current console designation rather than the number of local users.

One family PS5
A parent’s account has PlayStation Plus, downloads an eligible Monthly Plus game and enables Console Sharing and Offline Play. A child’s account on that same PS5 can launch the downloaded game if parental controls allow it. The child cannot redeem the game to a separate library or use the parent’s cloud storage.
One family PS4
The subscriber activates the console as the primary PS4. Other users on that PS4 can use eligible downloaded games and online multiplayer, while discounts and redemptions remain tied to the subscriber’s account.
A PS5 and a PS4 in the same household
The subscriber can use the supported PS5 sharing setting on one PS5 and the primary-PS4 designation on one PS4. Other users on those designated consoles can receive the shareable benefits, subject to the same game-plan and parental-control limits.
Two separate PS5 consoles
The subscriber cannot keep Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on both PS5 consoles at the same time. Enabling the setting on one PS5 changes which console receives the shared benefits.
The rule in PlayStation’s own wording
PlayStation Support states: “You can share certain PlayStation Plus benefits on one PS5 console with Console Sharing and Offline Play activated, and one PS4 console that is activated as your primary PS4 console.” It also explains that users of an enabled PS5 can play the subscriber’s purchased and downloaded games and media offline and enjoy some PlayStation Plus benefits.
Those qualifications—certain benefits, one enabled PS5, and one primary PS4—are the parts to remember. They allow practical family use on the same console without turning a single subscription into separate subscriptions for every account.
