Check your processor, graphics card and driver, RAM, operating system, and the compatibility status of the exact game you want to play. RPCS3 also requires PS3 system software and a game dump you are legally entitled to use; neither comes bundled with the emulator.
What your PC needs to run RPCS3
The RPCS3 project distinguishes a minimum baseline from recommended hardware for playable performance. Its Quickstart says the minimum is intended to run games with “no performance or stability guarantees.” These specifications are project guidance, not a promise that every game will work well.

These figures come from the RPCS3 Quickstart content available in a mirror; verify the current recommendations on the official RPCS3 Quickstart because the accessible mirror’s publication date is not established. The project’s FAQ also cautions that requirements can change; that FAQ was last edited April 29, 2020, so its older operating-system list should not be treated as a current support list.
For laptops, check the actual parts
The Quickstart strongly recommends desktops over laptops. Its laptop guidance recommends an 8-core/16-thread 35W-or-higher H-series CPU and a compatible dedicated Vulkan GPU. Laptop configurations can differ even when their marketing names look similar, so check the exact processor, GPU, and driver rather than relying on the model name alone.

Will the PS3 game you want to play work?
PC specifications alone cannot answer that. RPCS3 classifies games individually, and its compatibility list says its data changes frequently. Check the entry for the exact title and edition you intend to use.
- Playable: The game can be completed with playable performance and without game-breaking glitches.
- Ingame: The game cannot be finished, has serious glitches, or does not meet playable-performance expectations.
Do not rely on old search-result percentages or a status remembered from an earlier check; consult the live entry. Even a “Playable” classification is about the title’s reported compatibility, not a guarantee for every PC configuration.

What else you need before you can play
PS3 system software
RPCS3 requires PlayStation 3 system software for system libraries. The Quickstart directs users to obtain the update file from PlayStation.com, then install it in RPCS3 using File > Install Firmware. RPCS3 does not distribute official PS3 firmware.
Your own game dump
RPCS3 does not include PS3 games. Its Quickstart says titles must be self-dumped from your own console or using a compatible Blu-ray drive; ordinary Blu-ray drives may not work. Laws on copying and software distribution vary by country, so check the rules that apply where you live. Do not treat an emulator download as a source of game files.

Input device
A controller is optional: the RPCS3 FAQ describes keyboard use and local multiplayer setups that mix keyboards and gamepads. Choose an input method that suits the game; a controller is not a requirement for running the emulator.

- Identify your exact hardware. Find the CPU model, graphics card, RAM capacity and whether it is dual-channel, operating-system edition and version, and GPU driver status.
- Compare against the recommended baseline. A machine can meet the minimum and still perform poorly. Pay particular attention to CPU capability, Vulkan support and active GPU drivers, and memory configuration.
- Look up the exact game and edition. Use the live RPCS3 compatibility list rather than inferring results from another title or from hardware alone.
- Confirm the prerequisites. You will need PS3 system software and a game dump you are entitled to use, in addition to the emulator.
For an individualized assessment, provide your CPU, GPU, installed RAM and channel configuration, operating system and version, and the PS3 game you want to run. Without those details, the most accurate answer is that RPCS3 may run, but playable performance cannot be determined from the question alone.
