You can use a qualifying digital Xbox Play Anywhere game on Xbox and Windows PC with the account that owns it—but not every game qualifies.

Yes—if the digital game is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Sign in on both devices with the Microsoft/Xbox account that owns it to access the game on an Xbox console and a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, with no additional Play Anywhere charge. It does not give another person a separate license, and it does not apply to every Xbox game.

What “sharing” means with Xbox Play Anywhere

Xbox Play Anywhere lets you use a qualifying digital game you own across supported Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. It is an account-based entitlement: sign in with the account that owns the game. It is not a way to lend the game license to someone else. Xbox describes the feature and its eligibility rules on its Xbox Play Anywhere page.

For a qualifying game you own, Xbox says there is no additional Play Anywhere cost. You still need to own the game, and the title itself must support the feature.

Which games work on both Xbox and PC?

Only games marked with the Xbox Play Anywhere badge qualify. Check for the badge on the Xbox Store or Windows Store, or look for the title in Xbox’s participating-games list. Xbox Play Anywhere covers digital games bought from the Xbox Store or Windows Store, as well as digital codes from participating retailers. It does not apply to disc copies.

Game or license Xbox Play Anywhere access on Xbox and PC
Digital game with the Xbox Play Anywhere badge Yes, when you sign in with the account that owns it.
Digital game without the badge No access across devices is provided by Play Anywhere.
Disc copy No. Play Anywhere applies only to digital games.

The badge matters more than whether a game is described as an Xbox title or supports cross-play. Cross-play concerns playing with people on other platforms; it does not establish that your purchase includes another version.

How to install your game on each device

  1. On Xbox: Sign in with the account that owns the game. Open My Games & Apps, then find the title under Ready to Install.
  2. On Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC: Sign in to the Xbox app with the same owning account, then find the title in My Library.

Xbox says saves, achievements, add-ons, and supported downloadable content carry across the listed devices. The title must support Play Anywhere, and the PC must meet the game’s own requirements.

Can you play on Xbox and PC at the same time?

No—not with the same Play Anywhere sign-in. Xbox says you may be signed into the game on only one Xbox console, one Windows PC, or one supported handheld at a time. The feature lets you move between devices; it does not provide simultaneous use of the same game under one account.

Does Game Pass automatically make every game playable on both?

The Xbox Play Anywhere information does not establish that a Game Pass subscription grants cross-platform access to every catalog title or clarify what happens to access when a game leaves a catalog. Check the particular game’s Play Anywhere status and the terms for your subscription before relying on it for access across devices.
