No. Microsoft does not let you merge or link personal Microsoft accounts, or transfer Xbox game progress, gamertags, purchases, or account balance from one account to another. You can keep both accounts and use them side by side, but that does not consolidate their data. See Microsoft’s account-combination guidance.
What stays with your original Microsoft account
Microsoft identifies game progress, gamertags, account purchases, and account balance as items that cannot be transferred between personal accounts. Xbox subscriptions are also associated with an Xbox or Microsoft account; Microsoft does not describe a process for moving one to another account.
- Game progress and saves: Progress remains with the account’s Xbox profile. Xbox Play Anywhere saves are tied to the player’s gamertag, so signing in with the same account on another device can let you continue playing. That is continued access through the original account, not a move to a different one. See Microsoft’s account guidance and its Xbox Play Anywhere information.
- Gamertag and Xbox profile: The gamertag cannot be transferred to another Microsoft account. The account-combination guidance is explicit that the accounts themselves cannot be merged.
- Digital games and other purchases: Purchases cannot be transferred between accounts. For Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles, Microsoft describes both user-based and device-based digital game licenses; the user license is associated with the Microsoft account. See Xbox’s digital game license rules.
- Subscriptions: Xbox Live Gold, Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate are described in Microsoft’s usage rules as associated with an Xbox or Microsoft account. Those rules do not give an account-to-account transfer process. See Xbox’s digital game license rules.
- Account balance: Microsoft says account balance cannot be transferred between accounts. Funds also do not move between regions when you change your location. See Microsoft’s account guidance and its country or region guidance.
Home Xbox sharing is not an account transfer
Setting a console as a Home Xbox can make eligible device-based game licenses available to other users on that console. It does not move the owner’s user license or transfer their profile, gamertag, purchases, or progress to another Microsoft account. The license tied to the account remains with that account.
Changing region does not change the account owner
A country or region change updates location settings; it does not migrate your Xbox identity or account data to another Microsoft account. Microsoft recommends changing region for a long-term move and warns that some items may not work across regions. Your account funds do not move with the change. Read Microsoft’s country or region guidance before changing settings.

- Xbox 360: Microsoft says a region change requires Xbox profile migration and may affect other subscriptions and services. This legacy procedure is still not a transfer to a different Microsoft account.
What to do instead
- Keep using the original account for its profile, progress, purchases, and subscriptions. Microsoft provides no merge or account-transfer process.
- If you do not remember which email owns the gamertag, identify that account first. Follow Microsoft’s Xbox email walkthrough and search your email accounts for Microsoft purchase receipts. This helps locate the existing account; it does not migrate its data.
- If you want both accounts on one console, use them side by side. Microsoft’s guidance points to switching among Xbox profiles; using multiple profiles is not the same as combining them.
- If you are moving to a new console, sign in with the account you already use. That preserves access associated with that account. Creating a new account will not bring its purchases or progress with it.
- If you are moving countries, follow the region instructions for your console generation. Check possible effects on subscriptions and account balance before changing your location settings.
