Sometimes, but only in a narrow case. Activision says it may overturn a permanent account ban if it determines the infraction happened because the Activision account was hacked. Temporary bans, limited matchmaking and hardware bans are not eligible for the Ban Appeal process. Start by checking your status on Activision’s Ban Appeal page; if you see signs of account compromise, use Hacked Account Recovery.
Check which enforcement state applies
Sign in to Activision’s Ban Appeal page to view the account enforcement status and whether an appeal is available. The page shows account enforcement status; a device-level hardware ban is checked separately, in game on that device using an account in good standing.

Activision says limited matchmaking can change to normal matchmaking, return to the limited state, or result in a temporary or permanent ban or another penalty. Leaving limited matchmaking does not establish that the account has been cleared of potential violations.
How to appeal an eligible permanent ban
- Open Activision’s Ban Appeal page and sign in to check the enforcement status and whether the appeal option is available.
- Review the account links and basic account information shown in the flow. If you find links or changes you do not recognize, use the hacked-account recovery route instead.
- If the page offers an appeal and the ban is permanent, submit one appeal through the official form. Explain the relevant circumstances clearly and accurately.
- Wait for Activision’s investigation and status update. The company says it will not respond to duplicate submissions or appeals sent through other channels, and appeal decisions are final.
Activision’s stated standard is specific: it says a permanent ban will be overturned only if it determines the infraction occurred because the Activision account was hacked. Saying someone else was playing is not, by itself, a guarantee of reversal. Activision’s policy says the account holder is responsible for infractions regardless of who was using the account.

What to do if your account was hacked
Report the signs of compromise through Hacked Account Recovery. If you can still access the email associated with the account, Activision’s page instructs you to log in and follow the recovery steps. If you are locked out, the workflow may require a temporary Activision account and a platform account that was already linked to the affected account.
- Use an email address you can access and verify; disposable or unverifiable email can lead to denial.
- If the process asks you to link a platform account, use one that was originally linked to the hacked account. Activision warns that an unrelated platform account can lead to denial.
- Do not make purchases on the temporary account. Its progress and purchases cannot be transferred.
- Activision says recovery requests can take up to two days.

For an appeal, Activision says it provides status after the investigation is complete. These estimates do not promise when a particular case will be resolved.
Why Activision may issue a ban
Activision’s Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy describes enforcement methods that include client- and server-side detection, monitoring applications running during gameplay, behavioral models, hardware-integrity checks, and player reports. Examples of conduct that may lead to penalties include unauthorized software, boosting, circumventing security, glitching, malicious reporting, and offensive behavior.

The policy applies to Call of Duty titles starting with Modern Warfare (2019) and later console and PC titles. It says permanent bans may apply across past, current, or future Call of Duty titles; extreme or repeated violations may lead to permanent account suspension and hardware bans. Activision’s Account Security index lists the policy as updated 07/31/2026.

Activision’s cited support pages publish no appeal success rate, count of overturned bans, or probability that a particular argument will succeed. There is no evidence-based percentage to use when estimating an individual appeal’s chances. Follow the official process and avoid anyone claiming a paid service can reverse a ban; buying a controller, VPN, security tool, or recovery guide does not change Activision’s stated eligibility criteria.
