Yes. You can link an Xbox/Microsoft account to an Epic Games account and use that identity for supported games such as Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys. Linking can synchronize supported progress and content across Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and other connected platforms.
That does not make Xbox an Epic Games Store client. Games bought from the Epic Games Store generally remain PC or macOS purchases; they do not automatically become Xbox licenses.
What an Epic account does on Xbox
“Use my Epic Games account on Xbox” can mean several different things:
- Play a supported Epic game: Link your Xbox account to Epic and launch Fortnite, Rocket League, or Fall Guys on Xbox.
- Carry progress between platforms: Link the Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Switch, Steam, or other supported accounts to the same Epic account where the game supports cross-progression.
- Play Epic Games Store purchases: This generally is not possible on Xbox. An Epic account does not convert a PC store purchase into an Xbox entitlement.
Cross-progression and entitlements are game-specific; do not assume that every Epic-published or Epic-account-connected game supports the same behavior.

How to link your existing Epic account to Xbox
Use this process when the Epic account already contains the progress or purchases you want to keep.
- Open the Epic Games website in a browser.
- Sign out. If the wrong account keeps appearing, use a private/incognito window.
- Select Sign In, then choose the Xbox icon.
- Authenticate with the Xbox account you use to play the game—the one holding the progress you want.
- Complete any on-screen account setup or linking prompts.
- Open Epic account settings and select Linked accounts.
- Under Xbox, select Link if it is not already connected, then complete Microsoft authentication.
- After linking finishes, launch the supported game on Xbox. Complete linking before opening the game on additional platforms.
If Epic asks for an email while completing an automatically created account, it does not have to match the email on your Xbox account. Epic documents the setup and linking flow at its account-creation help page.
How to identify the Epic account your Xbox uses
When someone first plays Fortnite, Fall Guys, or Rocket League on Xbox, Epic may create an account associated with the Xbox login. That account can lack a password, display name, or email address until it is completed. Signing in with the Xbox icon is therefore safer than guessing an Epic email address; the two email addresses may be different.
If Xbox already shows the desired progress, sign in through the Xbox icon first and inspect Account > Linked accounts. Do not create a second Epic account simply because the first one is not fully registered.

What transfers between Xbox and other platforms?

Can Epic Games Store games be played on Xbox?
Usually no. An Epic Games Store purchase is normally a PC or macOS Launcher license, while an Xbox purchase is tied to the Xbox store ecosystem. To play another title on Xbox, the game must be offered through an Xbox-supported channel or provide a separately supported entitlement. Linking your Epic account does not install the Epic Games Store on Xbox or transfer your PC library.
Epic’s stated console-access exceptions are Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys: Epic Games Store purchases versus console access.

Epic allows one Xbox account on an Epic account at a time. The same Xbox account cannot be linked to multiple Epic accounts. The same one-per-platform principle applies to other platform types, such as PlayStation, Nintendo, and Steam. Linking accounts is not an account merge.
If Xbox and another platform contain different progress, Epic says the progress cannot be combined. Inspect each account and decide which progress you want to keep before changing links.

What to do if Xbox is linked to the wrong Epic account
Do not immediately unlink it. First establish where the desired progress actually lives:
- Sign out of Epic.
- Select the Xbox sign-in icon and authenticate with the Xbox account showing the desired progress.
- Check the Epic account’s email, linked platforms, and in-game progress.
- Only then decide whether to move the Xbox link.

- Open Linked accounts and select Unlink beside Xbox.
- Read and accept the warnings. If prompted, remove the platform-linking restriction.
- Sign out.
- Sign in to the Epic account containing the progress you want.
- Link Xbox again, then launch the game.
Changing the link can trigger a restriction. Epic says a restriction-removal request for the same platform can be used only once every 365 days: changing a linked Xbox account.
- Cancel an active platform-linked Fortnite Crew subscription before removing that platform; Epic warns that rewards may stop being granted after unlinking.
- Unlinking Fortnite or Fall Guys can leave the Xbox account using a new, empty Epic account until the original account is relinked.
- For Rocket League, unlinking the platform account that holds progress can reset inventory and XP on that account.

Wrong Epic account
Use the Xbox sign-in icon rather than an assumed email address. Compare the linked-platform list and progress on each possible account.

A new, empty account was created
Launching a game after unlinking can create or select an uncompleted account. Sign out, locate the Epic account that held the original progress, and relink Xbox to it.

Epic does not merge separate progress sets. Choose the platform progress to retain before making further changes.
Nothing syncs after correct linking
- Confirm Xbox is the account that originally held the progress.
- Confirm every desired platform is linked to the same Epic account.
- Launch the game once on each linked platform after linking.
- Check that you did not create a fresh Epic account during setup.
- Consider whether a Cabined Account is limiting account features.

Progress vanished while Xbox remains linked
A compromised account or unauthorized unlink is possible. Use Epic’s account-recovery process rather than repeatedly unlinking and relinking. If Fortnite appears at level one, Epic provides additional recovery guidance at this support page.
Child or Cabined Account
A Cabined Account can restrict certain features until required parental consent and setup are completed. An inability to use a linking function is not, by itself, proof that the account or console is defective.

Safe-linking checklist
- Identify the Xbox account that contains the progress you want.
- Sign in with the Xbox icon before creating or upgrading another Epic login.
- Check Account > Linked accounts before unlinking anything.
- Confirm which Fortnite, Fall Guys, or Rocket League data will be retained.
- Check subscriptions and the 365-day restriction before changing the Xbox link.
- Launch each supported game only after the final account structure is complete.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an Epic Games account to play Fortnite on Xbox?
Fortnite can create an Epic account associated with your Xbox login. If you already have an Epic account with your progress, sign in through the Xbox icon and link that account instead of creating a separate one.
Can I use the same Epic account on Xbox and PC?
Yes, for supported games when the Xbox and PC platform accounts are linked to the same Epic account. This does not make Epic Games Store PC purchases playable on Xbox.
Can I link two Xbox accounts to one Epic account?
No. Epic permits one Xbox account per Epic account, and one Xbox account cannot be linked to multiple Epic accounts.
Can two Epic Games accounts be merged?
No. Linking does not merge separate progress or inventories. If accounts differ, you must choose which progress to keep.
Do V-Bucks transfer to Xbox?
Not universally. Fortnite V-Bucks have platform and currency restrictions, so verify the specific balance and purchase platform rather than assuming all V-Bucks transfer.
What happens if I unlink Xbox?
You can lose Xbox access to the linked account’s progress and purchases, trigger a linking restriction, or create an empty account on Xbox. Rocket League data is especially sensitive because progress is associated with the external platform account.
The Bottom Line
Linking the correct Xbox account lets you use an Epic identity across supported games and platforms. It does not bring the general Epic Games Store library to Xbox, and unlinking without first identifying the account that owns your progress can make recovery difficult.
