No—Geyser does not let Java Edition players join a Bedrock server. It works in the opposite direction: it lets Bedrock players connect to a Java Edition server. To play together, host a Java server and configure Geyser to accept Bedrock connections.
Why Java players can’t join a Bedrock server through Geyser
Geyser translates Bedrock connections so they can communicate with a Java Edition server; it does not translate Java clients for a Bedrock server. The project’s FAQ answers the question directly: “No, this is a translation tool to allow Bedrock players to connect to Java servers. It does not work the opposite way.”
Floodgate does not change that direction. It is an optional authentication solution for Bedrock players joining a Java server, including Bedrock account holders who do not have a Java Edition account.
How to let Java and Bedrock players play together
Use a Java Edition server with Geyser configured for Bedrock connections. Select the Geyser installation that fits your server or proxy, then make its Bedrock listener reachable to players. Geyser’s setup guide covers plugins, supported Fabric and NeoForge mods, proxies, and standalone deployment.

Choose an installation that fits your server
Where a compatible plugin is available, Geyser generally recommends it because platform integration may improve loading time, latency, IP reporting, memory use, or translation accuracy. Those benefits depend on the platform and setup; they are not guaranteed for every host. Larger networks may prefer standalone deployment to update Geyser independently or run it on another machine.
Configure the Bedrock connection
Bedrock clients connect to Geyser’s Bedrock listener over UDP. The setup guide uses port 19132 as a default example, but your host’s port allocation and instructions take precedence. Some hosts require the Java and Bedrock ports to match; Geyser’s clone-remote-port setting can override the configured Bedrock port. Another UDP service cannot use the same port.

For players connecting from outside your local network, expose the listener with UDP port forwarding or use a tunnel that supports UDP. Geyser notes that Ngrok will not work for this purpose because it is TCP-only, and identifies playit.gg as an option. To check reachability, run geyser connectiontest <ip> <port>.
Decide whether Bedrock players need Floodgate
Bedrock players who authenticate with Java accounts can connect without Floodgate. Install and configure Floodgate if Bedrock account holders need to join without a Java Edition account, following the instructions for your platform. If the Java server uses a whitelist, use Floodgate’s supported whitelist method or add the Floodgate UUID as documented in the Floodgate overview.

Check version compatibility before installing
Geyser’s supported versions change. On the compatibility page reviewed on October 8, 2026, it listed Bedrock 26.30–26.51 and a Java 26.2 client version that Geyser emulates. Your Java server must accept the emulated Java version. The page notes ViaVersion as an option for allowing newer Java clients onto older servers. Check the current supported versions when setting up, because these numbers may have changed.
