But an advertised JioFiber plan speed does not guarantee that speed over home Wi-Fi, and running a playlist all day every day raises a separate data-policy concern: at a constant 20 Mbps, playback uses about 216 GB per day, or 6,480 GB over 30 days. Jio’s published terms set a 3,300 GB commercial-use threshold within a 30-day prepaid recharge cycle or a postpaid bill cycle, depending on the account.
This is a question about watching a live stream, not transmitting one. YouTube’s separate 35 Mbps recommendation for 4K/2160p at 60 fps is a creator-side H.264 encoding bitrate, not the speed viewers need to receive the stream.
How much speed does 4K YouTube playback need?
YouTube Help recommends a sustained speed of 20 Mbps for 4K UHD playback. Treat that as a service recommendation, not a guarantee that every live stream uses a fixed bitrate or that a connection advertised at 20 Mbps will deliver it continuously to a particular TV or computer. See YouTube’s system requirements and supported devices.
Jio’s official plan FAQ lists examples of JioFiber plans at 30 Mbps and 100 Mbps, among others, as unlimited-data plans. Availability and advertised speeds depend on the account and offer; check the plan available at your address in Jio’s plan information. A 30 Mbps advertised plan is nominally above YouTube’s 20 Mbps playback recommendation, but it leaves less headroom for other household activity than a faster plan. Neither figure tells you the speed reaching the playback device.

Do not confuse watching with broadcasting
YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends a 35 Mbps H.264 bitrate for sending a 4K/2160p stream at 60 fps. That is for a creator’s outgoing stream, not a viewer watching a 4K live playlist. The same page’s suggestion to run a speed test concerns testing upload bitrate for a creator; it does not replace the 20 Mbps playback recommendation.
How much data does all-day 4K playback use?
At a constant 20 Mbps, 24 hours of continuous playback works out to approximately 216 GB using decimal gigabytes. This is a calculation from the recommended speed, not a published YouTube usage statistic; actual data use varies with the stream’s delivered bitrate and connection conditions.

Jio’s prepaid service terms describe usage beyond 3,300 GB within a 30-day recharge cycle as misuse under the commercial-use policy. Its postpaid service terms apply a 3,300 GB threshold per bill cycle. Check the terms that apply to your specific account. At the illustrative 20 Mbps rate, continuous playback would reach 3,300 GB in approximately 15.3 days; that estimate ignores overhead and variation in actual bitrate. A single all-day session is a different proposition from repeating it every day through a billing or recharge cycle.
How to check whether your JioFiber connection can sustain it
- Test at the playback device. Run a speed test on the TV, streaming device, or computer you plan to use, at the time of day you expect to watch. A plan’s advertised speed is not a measurement at that device.
- Try the actual playlist for an extended session. Select the 4K quality option in YouTube where available. Watch whether the player maintains 4K and whether buffering interrupts playback; a brief speed test alone does not establish all-day stability.
- Reduce local network competition if playback varies. Pause heavy downloads and other demanding uses, or disconnect devices that are not needed. Jio notes that simultaneous heavy applications, including 4K streaming and online gaming, can congest a connection and slow it for everyone.
- Try Ethernet where supported. Connect the playback device to the Jio router/ONT with a wired Ethernet connection if possible. YouTube says hard-wiring may help compared with Wi-Fi. It can reduce variation in the local wireless link, but it cannot prevent provider outages or guarantee service continuity.
- Recheck the data terms before making it a daily schedule. Compare expected usage with the prepaid recharge-cycle or postpaid bill-cycle threshold applicable to your account.

Why a fast plan still may not play smoothly all day
The result depends on more than the plan’s headline speed. Wi-Fi conditions, the playback device, other household traffic, power interruptions, and service outages can all affect continuity. Jio’s general description of its fibre service does not establish an individual home’s uptime or guarantee uninterrupted 4K playback. Its JioFiber overview describes the service, not a household-specific performance test.
- 4K buffers or drops in quality: Test near the device, reduce competing traffic, and try Ethernet if available.
- Speed tests look adequate, but playback still stalls: A test is a snapshot. Observe the stream over a longer session and check whether the problem recurs at particular times or when other devices are active.
- Playback stops despite a wired connection: Ethernet addresses only the local Wi-Fi link; it cannot rule out a provider outage, power loss, or a problem with the stream itself.
- One day works, but daily playback is planned: Estimate usage across the applicable billing or recharge cycle, not just for one session, and review Jio’s account terms.
