Then use PRISM’s exact notice or error, the timing of the stop, your phone’s operating system, network stability, and device temperature to narrow down the cause. A YouTube-ended notice points to a different next step than a connection error, and a stream that stops when you switch apps needs an OS-specific check.
First find out whether YouTube or PRISM stopped the broadcast
- Check YouTube from a separate device. Look at the broadcast’s status while PRISM is showing a stop notice or error. This helps distinguish a broadcast that YouTube has ended from a connection that PRISM has lost.
- Read the exact message in PRISM. PRISM’s “Stream Has Ended” guide lists Android error 4913 and iOS errors 0 / 15. Its connection guide lists Android 5007 and iOS -1001 / -1 for a connection that was lost, or could not be established, for more than 10 minutes. These codes are clues, not proof of one particular cause; follow the guide for the message you actually see: Stream Has Ended and Streaming Is Not Working.
- Note when it happens. Does it stop immediately, after a long session, only when PRISM goes into the background, or when the phone is hot? That pattern helps choose which check to try next.
When PRISM displays “Stream Has Ended,” it considers the broadcast stopped and no longer updates live information such as chat, viewer count, or likes. If YouTube also confirms the broadcast ended, review any notice from the platform and check for an account or policy restriction before restarting. PRISM discusses possible platform termination causes, including device-side streaming problems, platform policy action, and platform duration limits, in its Stream May Be Terminated on the Live Platform guide.
If PRISM shows a connection error
Stabilize your upload connection
A weak or fluctuating upload connection can prevent video from reaching YouTube. PRISM notes that a platform may end a broadcast if it does not receive video for a period. Test whether your Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection is steady, and consider whether other users, downloads, or uploads are competing for it.
- Turn on Adaptive bitrate in PRISM.
- If the connection remains unstable, lower the resolution, then lower the frame rate if needed. Under similar conditions, PRISM says 720p is typically more stable than 1080p, and 30 fps more stable than 60 fps.
- Close other apps and reduce overlays or effects if the phone is under load.
Make changes gradually so you can see whether one of them improves the connection. Lower settings can reduce picture detail or motion smoothness; they are troubleshooting steps, not a guarantee that a stream will stay live. Understand PRISM’s bandwidth examples in context
When Adaptive bitrate is off, PRISM’s stability guide gives example per-second video chunk bandwidth ranges: 1080p, 0.1–4 Mbps or 0.1–6 Mbps; 720p, 0.1–2.5 Mbps or 0.1–4 Mbps; 480p, 0.1–2.0 Mbps; and 360p, 0.1–1.5 Mbps. These are examples from PRISM’s guide, not universal minimum upload-speed requirements. Your connection also needs to remain steady over time.
PRISM also reports one comparison in which Wi-Fi measured 134.4 Mbps down and 154.2 Mbps up, while LTE measured 89.2 Mbps down and 17.8 Mbps up. That is a single comparison in its guide, not a general benchmark proving Wi-Fi is always faster or more reliable than cellular.

Check a manual RTMP destination, if you use one
If the stream never establishes and you entered an RTMP destination manually, verify the stream URL and key. Keep the key private; do not paste it into a public post or screenshot. PRISM lists invalid or nonexistent RTMP details, an app-to-platform connection issue, and restrictions on live-streaming rights among possible causes of a connection that never starts. If YouTube’s account or live-streaming controls indicate a restriction, use YouTube’s own account guidance or support rather than repeatedly retrying.

- Android: PRISM says background broadcasting can continue after you enable “Allow display over other apps” in your device settings. The precise settings path can vary by Android version and phone manufacturer; search Settings for that exact permission if you do not see it immediately.
- iOS: PRISM’s Broadcasting Live Stream in Background guide states: “Due to platform OS policies, iOS apps do not support background live broadcasting.” Keep PRISM in the foreground while streaming on iOS.
If a stop coincides with answering a call or moving to another app, test again with PRISM left open. That helps distinguish background behavior from a separate network or platform issue.
If your phone gets hot or the stream runs for a long time
Extended streaming can heat a phone. PRISM says heat may impair video processing and, in severe cases, contribute to platform termination. If the device is hot, reduce encoding and app workload: lower resolution or frame rate, close other apps, and consider temporarily removing the phone case, as PRISM suggests in its stability guidance. These checks address workload and heat; they do not establish that a cooling accessory is necessary.

PRISM’s help page says YouTube has no maximum live-stream duration. Separately, YouTube auto-archiving applies only to streams under 12 hours; streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived. That archive caveat is not a general YouTube live-duration cap, so an unexpectedly ended stream should be diagnosed through its status, connection, device, and platform notices rather than assumed to have hit a 12-hour limit.
