Yes, but only conditionally. You can run Better MC on Aternos if the exact Better MC variant and version you want appears in Aternos’s current built-in modpack catalog. You generally cannot upload a Better MC server-pack ZIP directly, add extra mods to an Aternos-installed pack, or freely edit its configuration through the standard modpack system.
Check Aternos before downloading anything
Aternos’s supported modpack list changes, so do not assume that every Better MC release is available. In your server panel, go to Software → Modpacks and search for Better MC, Better Minecraft, or the specific pack name.

Check the complete entry, not just the title. Better MC is a collection of separate packs, including different Minecraft versions and loaders:

These names are not interchangeable. Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge are different mod-loader environments, even when two packs use the same Minecraft version. See the project pages for BMC4 Forge, BMC2 Fabric, and BMC5 NeoForge for the release details of the pack you use.

If Better MC is listed: install it this way
On the Aternos server
- Back up any existing world before changing the server software.
- Open your Aternos server dashboard.
- Select Software, then Modpacks.
- Search for the exact Better MC variant.
- Select the matching Minecraft version and loader.
- Install the pack and accept the warning about changing the server setup.
- Start the server and allow extra time for the modpack to load.
Aternos supports selected packs from services such as CurseForge and Modrinth, but the catalog—not the existence of a download on another website—determines whether the pack can be installed through Aternos. Aternos also notes that modded servers can take considerably longer to start than vanilla servers. Its modpack installation guide explains the supported workflow and its restrictions.
On every player’s computer
Each player normally needs Minecraft Java Edition with the same:
- Better MC pack and release
- Minecraft version
- Mod-loader family and compatible loader version
- Required mods and dependencies
For a CurseForge pack, install the CurseForge App, open Browse Modpacks, find the same Better MC pack and release, and launch that profile. For a Modrinth release, use the Modrinth App or another compatible launcher. A vanilla client, a Fabric client, and a Forge client cannot be assumed to connect to the same modded server. Can you upload the Better MC server pack?
Normally, no. Better MC may provide a separate server pack for self-hosting or hosts that allow file uploads, but that does not override Aternos’s managed software restrictions. Aternos’s standard system installs catalogued modpacks through the panel; it is not a general-purpose custom ZIP uploader.
Do not confuse a project’s “server pack” with permission to upload it anywhere. If the Better MC release is missing from Aternos, downloading an unofficial repack or trying to place the ZIP in an unrelated file area is not a supported solution.
Can you add extra mods to Better MC on Aternos?
Not through Aternos’s normal modpack installation route. Aternos treats an installed modpack as a complete package: only one modpack can be installed at a time, and the supported workflow does not allow you to add individual mods or change the pack’s configurations. Read the Aternos restrictions before changing an existing server.

You can install individual mods on a server running a compatible Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge setup using Aternos’s mod installation process. However, manually rebuilding Better MC is not the same as installing the official pack. You would need to identify the correct server-side mods, dependencies, configurations, datapacks, and compatible versions. Some visual or performance mods are client-only, while others require installation on both sides. Copying every file from a client profile can make the server fail.

Removing or changing them after a world has been created can cause missing content, inconsistent terrain, or crashes. A manually assembled collection may also perform worse or behave differently from the published Better MC release.
What if Better MC is missing?
You have three realistic options:
- Request the pack: Use Aternos’s modpack suggestion process if it is available. A request is not an immediate installation or a guarantee that the pack will be approved.
- Build a smaller custom setup: Install compatible individual mods manually, preferably with a clear server/client plan. This is for experienced users and will not reproduce every Better MC feature.
- Use a host that allows custom uploads: A paid service such as exaroton supports custom server software and modpack uploads. Its documentation describes custom uploads as an advanced feature, and you remain responsible for making the installation work.
Does Better MC run well on Aternos?
Installability and performance are separate questions. A Better MC pack can be accepted by Aternos and still be demanding on a free, shared server. The cited BMC4 listing describes a pack with more than 270 mods, extensive world generation, structures, dimensions, mobs, quests, and optimization features. That workload can lead to long startup times, delayed chunk generation, lag during exploration, memory pressure, or timeouts.

There is no universal official RAM number that guarantees good performance. Results depend on the pack release, world, player count, view distance, simulation distance, and whether several players generate new terrain at once. A small group playing occasionally may find it acceptable; simultaneous exploration by several players is a much harder workload.

Also avoid updating the client before the server, or the server before the client. Back up worlds before upgrading Better MC, especially when the update changes world-generation mods. If an Aternos software version is deprecated, consult its deprecated-version guidance.
Mods, plugins, datapacks, and Bedrock are different
Better MC uses mods through Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge. It is not a Paper, Purpur, Spigot, or Bukkit plugin pack. Ordinary plugins require compatible plugin-oriented server software, and mixing plugin and mod ecosystems can have significant compatibility limits.

Datapacks and resource packs are separate from mods and plugins. Shaders are generally client-side, while a server resource pack is a separate server feature. Finally, the Better MC listings covered here are for Java Edition. A Bedrock player cannot install the Java modpack directly; tools such as Geyser do not automatically make every Java mod compatible with Bedrock clients.
Which option fits your situation?
- Use Aternos if your exact Better MC release is listed, your group is small, and you are happy to use the pack without modifications.
- Choose a different host if you need a server-pack upload, custom configuration, extra or removed mods, or more extensive file management.
- Consider exaroton if you want an Aternos migration path or custom Better MC files. It uses usage-based credits rather than a fixed monthly plan; see its official pricing documentation for current rates.
- Self-host if you are comfortable managing Java, loaders, files, backups, networking, and troubleshooting yourself.
CurseForge, Modrinth, and Prism Launcher are client-side launcher choices, not solutions to Aternos’s server upload restrictions. Prism Launcher can be useful for advanced instance management, but it does not host the server.
