Yes—Full Custom Companions (Hirelings) offers a way to add companion-like party members by creating custom companions or duplicating NPCs. It is not a way to turn every NPC into a fully authored vanilla companion with unique quests, dialogue, or romance. Before installing, check the listing against your game version, install its required Script Extender dependency, and protect any existing campaign: the mod author says it is not safe to uninstall mid-playthrough.
What the NPC companion mod actually does
The Nexus Mods listing for Full Custom Companions (Hirelings) describes two options: create fully customized companions or duplicate NPCs for the party. That supports the idea of bringing an NPC-like character along, but it should not be confused with recruiting that character as a complete, bespoke companion authored by Larian.
The listing’s last verified state in the available source information is version 2.2.2.1, updated December 27, 2025, and it carries a Patch 8 Compatible tag. Tags and versions can change; confirm the live listing matches your installed game version before adding it.
What you need to install it
Required dependency
The mod listing marks Norbyte’s Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender as required. Follow the dependency’s own current installation information as well as the mod’s instructions.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Recommended mod manager
The author strongly recommends LaughingLeader’s BG3 Mod Manager. The listing says Vortex might work but is untested, while manual installation requires editing the profile’s modsettings file and is discouraged. Use the method recommended by the mod author rather than assuming all managers or manual steps are equally supported.
How multiplayer changes the setup
Larian’s multiplayer guidance says everyone in a modded party needs the exact same mods installed at the same version. During verification, the in-game window may provide options to download, enable, update, or downgrade mods so players can synchronize them for a save or session. Coordinate the mod list and versions with everyone before starting or loading a modded multiplayer game.

This Nexus mod is not part of Larian’s supported mod.io pipeline. Larian says external modding is allowed, but it cannot support mods outside its pipeline; game updates and conflicts between third-party mods can affect stability and functionality. Official mod support is intended to improve compatibility, but that should not be read as official support for this specific Nexus listing.

The mod changelog explicitly warns that it is not safe to uninstall the mod during a playthrough. Treat an active save that depends on it as a commitment: keep the mod installed when continuing that campaign, and do not remove it as a casual troubleshooting step. If you are deciding whether to use it, make that choice before relying on it in an ongoing save.

Late-game recruitment and summons

Check the mod’s current instructions and configuration before relying on recruitment late in the story or duplicating a summon.
