Mods can alter romantic interactions, but compatibility depends on the particular mod and game version. The Mod The Sims listing for “Romantic Socials TYAE – Same Sex – Revised” documents support for patches 1.63–1.67 and describes changes to same-sex romantic actions and autonomy. Its page was updated in 2014; that historical compatibility range is not a guarantee that the mod works with every current installation. An archived design document from an early development period says the game at that stage allowed only heterosexual romance, while noting that this would change. The archive also recounts that developer Patrick J. Barrett III implemented same-sex relationship support as behavior available to characters rather than as a personality property representing sexual preference. These are historical accounts of development, not descriptions of the released game’s full interface.
