Yes. Choose MERCY → Spare on every turn, including turns when the game says Toriel cannot be spared yet. Keep choosing Spare as her attacks and dialogue change; she will eventually stop fighting and let you leave. Do not choose FIGHT.
How to spare Toriel
- When the battle begins, choose MERCY, then Spare.
- Repeat Spare on each turn, even if an early attempt does not end the fight. The Undertale Wiki says Toriel stops fighting after 12 spare attempts; continuing to spare her resolves the encounter without killing her. Source: Undertale Wiki
- Keep choosing Spare as the encounter continues. Toriel’s attacks diminish, and she eventually allows you to leave.
Why the first Spare may not work
Spare is a repeated-action solution, not a command that necessarily ends the encounter on its first use. Toriel’s battle includes the line, “Can you show mercy without fighting or running away…?” If she cannot be spared yet, keep selecting Spare rather than treating that response as a dead end. What to avoid
Do not attack Toriel. The battle reference says that if you attack after she has stopped fighting, she dies in one hit. There is no need to manipulate her attacks or manage the encounter as a speedrun route: for a normal nonlethal playthrough, repeating Spare is the straightforward method.
