Yes. If Shepard romanced Liara in the first Mass Effect, the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC lets you end the relationship at its conclusion and leave them as friends. You can instead reaffirm the relationship. This is a continuation of an existing romance, not a way to start one with Liara in Mass Effect 2.
Who can break up with Liara?
The relationship choice is for a Shepard who romanced Liara in the first game. The romance content in Mass Effect 2 is part of the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC, rather than a standard squadmate romance arc. If Shepard did not romance Liara in the first game, do not expect this DLC conversation to begin a new romance with her.
How to end the relationship
- Play through Lair of the Shadow Broker to its conclusion.
- After the finale, speak with Liara and choose the relationship conversation that ends things rather than reaffirming the romance.
- Confirm the breakup choice in the conversation. The immediate outcome is that Shepard and Liara remain friends.
The conversation sequence can depend on prior relationship choices and when the DLC is played.
