The Traveling Cart sometimes sells Copper Bars for 180–1,000g, but its stock varies. For a dependable supply, buy Copper Ore from Clint and smelt it in a Furnace using Coal.
Where to buy Copper Bars
Traveling Cart
The Traveling Cart may list Copper Bars among its standard stock, at a price of 180–1,000g per bar. Because its inventory varies, this is a chance to buy bars directly—not a reliable way to obtain a specific quantity when you need it. See the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Traveling Cart page for its stock details.
Clint’s Blacksmith shop
Clint sells Copper Ore, not Copper Bars. Buying ore from him can help you make bars, but you still need a Furnace and Coal to smelt it. The Blacksmith page describes the shop’s stock.
How to make Copper Bars
- Get the Furnace recipe: Collect Copper Ore to trigger Clint providing the Furnace blueprint. The recipe requires 20 Copper Ore and 25 Stone.
- Craft and place the Furnace: Use the recipe to make a Furnace.
- Smelt the ore: Put five Copper Ore and one Coal into the Furnace. Each Copper Bar takes 30 in-game minutes to process.
The Copper Ore and Copper Bar entries on the Stardew Valley Wiki and Copper Bar page cover the recipe, unlock, and processing details.

Buying bars or making them: which route makes sense?
| Route | Availability | Cost or materials | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy a Copper Bar from the Traveling Cart | Variable; bars may not be in stock | 180–1,000g per bar, according to the cart’s listed range | Direct purchase when available |
| Buy Copper Ore from Clint and smelt it | Ore is sold at the Blacksmith; bars require processing | Five Copper Ore and one Coal per bar; ore purchase price not stated in the cited item and shop pages | Requires a Furnace and 30 in-game minutes per bar |
If the cart has bars and you need them immediately, buying directly avoids the smelting wait. If it does not, Clint’s ore is a route to bars once you have the Furnace and fuel.
What Copper Bars are used for
Copper Bars are used in crafting and for the first upgrades to the hoe, pickaxe, axe, and watering can. Each of those tool upgrades requires five Copper Bars and 2,000g. The Copper Trash Can upgrade also requires five bars, and costs 1,000g. See the Copper Bar page for the listed uses and requirements.
