As of 18 October 2026, Rockstar has not published a GTA 6-specific parental-control menu or switches for individual content such as nudity, violence, language or sexual material. Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and carries an ESRB M for Mature 17+ rating. If a child should not play it, configure the child’s console account first. After launch, inspect GTA 6’s own Settings and Online menus and check Rockstar’s support documentation for any newly documented controls.

The ESRB rating and content descriptors
The ESRB rates Grand Theft Auto VI M for Mature 17+. Its published descriptors are:
- Blood and Gore
- Intense Violence
- Mature Humor
- Nudity
- Strong Language
- Strong Sexual Content
- Use of Drugs and Alcohol
- In-Game Purchases
This is the most complete public warning layer currently available. It tells a household that GTA 6 contains several mature themes, not merely strong language or action violence.

No documented GTA 6 content-filter menu yet
Rockstar has published platform and edition information, but it has not published a GTA 6-specific menu that lets a parent disable nudity, sexual content, violence, language, drugs or alcohol individually. Claims about a hidden “censor” switch, a family mode or a launch setting that removes selected scenes are unverified until Rockstar documents them.
Rockstar’s existing support answer for the previous game says GTAV settings can be changed from the Pause Menu in Story Mode or Online. That describes GTAV’s ordinary settings flow; it is not evidence that GTA 6 will use the same menu or provide parental filters.
What console controls can do
PlayStation and Xbox family tools operate at the account or console layer. They can decide whether a child account may launch an age-rated game, communicate with other players, use online features or spend money. They do not rewrite the game’s scenes. Blocking an M-rated title is different from making that title suitable for a younger child.

How to restrict GTA 6 on a PlayStation 5
1. Use a supervised child account
Make sure the child plays through a supervised family account rather than an adult account. Console restrictions are tied to the account that signs in, so changing settings on an adult profile will not reliably protect a child who can switch profiles.
2. Open the privacy controls
- Sign in as the family manager, parent or guardian.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy.
- Select the child’s account and review the available family and privacy controls.
PlayStation’s family tools cover access to games by rating, spending limits and playtime. Set the child’s permitted game-rating level below the ESRB M/17+ category if the child should not launch GTA 6. Save the restriction and test it from the child profile, not only from the parent profile.
3. Review communication and online permissions
Use the child account’s privacy and family settings to decide whether the child can communicate with other players and use online features. Choose the most restrictive option that fits your household, then test it with the child account. GTA 6’s eventual online communication controls, if any, are separate from these PlayStation account permissions.
Rank #2
4. Add spending controls
Because the ESRB lists in-game purchases, set a spending limit or require approval for purchases on the child account. Check which account is charged, whether a wallet balance is shared and whether a stored payment method is available to the child profile.

5. Set playtime and activity rules
Use PlayStation family tools to set playtime limits and review activity visibility where those options are enabled. These controls limit when the account can play; they do not alter the game’s content.
How to restrict GTA 6 on Xbox Series X|S
1. Select the child in the family group
Sign in with the parent or organizer account and confirm that the child is listed as a family member. A child using an unsupervised adult account may not receive the intended restrictions.
2. Open Content restrictions
- Open Settings > Privacy and online safety.
- Choose the relevant family member.
- Open Content restrictions.
Set the permitted age level below the M/17+ rating if the child should not access GTA 6. Xbox family settings also let a parent individually allow or block a title, which is useful when the household wants a general age policy but needs a specific exception.
3. Control communication and multiplayer access
Within the child’s privacy and content settings, restrict voice and text communication as appropriate. Review multiplayer and cross-network permissions separately; a game-access rule does not automatically express your preferred communication rule.

4. Control purchases
Set spending controls or approval requirements before the child can use an account that lists a payment method. The in-game-purchases descriptor on the ESRB entry is a reason to check both console spending settings and any payment method attached to the account.

- Rule the city streets in a thrilling open-world crime adventure.
- Drive luxury cars, bikes, and police vehicles in epic missions.
- Fight gang wars, escape police chases, and dominate turf battles.

5. Verify the result from the child account
Sign out of the parent profile and try to start GTA 6 with the child profile. If the title is blocked, the console should require the configured parent approval or refuse access according to the age rule. Check the family settings again after console or account changes, because restrictions apply to the account selected in the menu.
Can you turn off nudity, sexual content or violence?
There is no confirmed GTA 6 switch for any of those categories as of 18 October 2026. The ESRB rating explicitly lists nudity, strong sexual content, blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, mature humor and drug and alcohol use. A console age gate can block the entire game, but it cannot selectively remove every listed theme from a game that is allowed to run.
If Rockstar documents a scene-skip, language, nudity or other content option after launch, treat the official in-game label and Rockstar support instructions as the authority. Until then, do not rely on videos, screenshots or social-media claims that describe an undocumented “censor mode.”
Can you block GTA 6 while allowing other games?
Yes, the practical approach is to use the console’s family account controls. On PlayStation 5, set the child’s game-rating limit below M/17+; PlayStation’s family tools are designed to manage game access by rating. On Xbox Series X|S, use the age-level restriction or individually block the title in the child’s content restrictions. These are account-level blocks, not settings inside GTA 6.
If several children use the same console, give each child a separate supervised profile. Otherwise, a restriction applied to one account may not affect another account with adult permissions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you limit voice chat, online play and user-generated content?
Console controls can restrict communication and online permissions. Xbox’s documented family guidance specifically includes voice and text communication controls. PlayStation family and privacy tools likewise let a family manager govern a child’s privacy and online interactions.
Rank #4
Rockstar has not published GTA 6’s final online-settings menu in the available material. The exact options for voice chat, user-generated content, cross-play or individual online activities therefore remain unconfirmed. Use the console restrictions immediately, then inspect GTA 6’s Settings and Online menus after launch for any additional controls.

What the M/17+ rating means for a household decision
The M rating is not a recommendation that every 17-year-old will have the same reaction; it is a content warning and age classification. In GTA 6’s case, the descriptors cover sexual content and nudity as well as violence, language, mature humor, drugs and alcohol. If your household is avoiding any one of those subjects, blocking the game is more dependable than looking for a switch that may not exist.
Parents should also separate access decisions from purchase decisions. A child might be blocked from launching the game but still have access to a payment method through another account, or an unrestricted account might be able to buy add-on content. Review account permissions and spending limits independently.
Launch-day checklist
- Confirm that the child uses a supervised family or child account.
- Set the platform’s permitted game-rating level below M/17+ if GTA 6 should be blocked.
- On Xbox, review the individual-title allow/block list; on PlayStation, verify the rating restriction from the family account.
- Review voice, text, multiplayer and cross-network permissions.
- Set a spending limit or purchase-approval requirement because the ESRB lists in-game purchases.
- Set playtime limits and activity visibility where the platform provides them.
- After installing GTA 6, open its Settings and Online menus with the parent present.
- Check Rockstar’s current support pages for newly documented GTA 6 controls before changing the household rule.
- Test every restriction from the child profile and attempt to launch the game, communicate and make a purchase.
What to do when a restriction does not work
The child can still start the game
Check which account is launching GTA 6, confirm that the account is actually supervised, and recheck the age-rating rule. A parent setting changed while signed into the wrong profile will not protect another profile. Test again after signing out and restarting the console.
The child can communicate despite a restriction
Review voice and text permissions separately from game access. Communication rules can be less restrictive than the game-rating rule, and they may apply to a different family member than the one playing.
A purchase is still possible
Check the payment method, wallet balance, family spending limit and approval requirement on the account that is making the purchase. Blocking the game does not by itself remove a saved payment method from an account with purchasing rights.
A website claims GTA 6 has a hidden censor toggle
Look for an official Rockstar support article or an in-game menu visible after launch. Until Rockstar documents the option, treat the claim as unconfirmed and rely on the console’s account-level block if the content is unsuitable.
