No. Sony says, “You can’t change your account’s country/region after your account has been created.” Your PlayStation account’s country is fixed when the account is opened, so switching the Store to a cheaper country is not an official way to reduce the price of a game.
PlayStation Store catalogs and services differ by country, but a foreign voucher must still match the country/region stored on your account. The reliable way to save is to use sales, subscriptions and publisher promotions available in your existing region, and to buy wallet vouchers marked for that same region.

Why you cannot change the country on an existing PlayStation account
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s current PlayStation Support guidance gives a direct answer: “No. You can’t change your account’s country/region after your account has been created.” A second version of the same rule states, “Once created, your country/region can’t be changed.” This is an account setting established at creation, not a preference you can edit later in the PlayStation Store.

Changing a console’s language, changing the address on a device, or connecting through an overseas internet connection does not officially change the country recorded on the PlayStation account. Sony’s cited guidance does not describe any supported process for transferring an established account to another country.

Why a cheaper foreign gift card usually does not solve the problem
A PlayStation Store voucher is regional. Sony’s wording is unambiguous: “The voucher code needs to be for the same region as your account.” A code intended for a different country is not interchangeable simply because the game is also sold in your country or because the code was purchased at a lower nominal price.
Physical vouchers provide a useful check before purchase. Sony says they display a country/region flag. Compare that flag with the country/region on the account that will receive the wallet credit. For a digital code, read the seller’s regional description carefully; a currency symbol alone is not a sufficient compatibility check if the listing does not clearly identify the account region it supports.

If the voucher’s region and the account’s region differ, redemption can fail. The problem is tied to the account and code regions, not to the console model or the game’s language. Trying the same foreign code repeatedly will not change the account’s country.

Do not assume that converting the displayed price into your local currency makes the transaction cheaper in practice. The available evidence does not provide a published statistic showing how much users save through regional pricing, and it does not establish that a foreign voucher will redeem or produce a lower final cost. Treat a promised discount as unverified unless the code is explicitly compatible with your account and the seller states the conditions clearly.
Legitimate ways to pay less without changing regions
Because the country setting is fixed, compare offers inside the Store region already attached to your account. Sony’s guidance points to the regional Store itself, while the following options keep the purchase within that supported setup.
Use the Store’s sales in your account’s region
Check the sale section shown after signing in to the account you will use for the game. Sale dates, eligible titles and discounts can differ by country, so judge the offer by the price displayed for your own account rather than by a screenshot from another market.

Compare subscription offers available in that region
Subscriptions can change which games or discounts are available to an account. Review the current plan terms and the titles included for your country before paying. Availability is regional and can change, so an offer described for another country may not appear on your account.

Look for publisher promotions in the same Store
Publishers sometimes run discounts or bundles through the regional Store. These promotions are a supported alternative to attempting to move the account. Confirm the promotion’s expiry date and the edition included before checkout.
Use a region-matched PlayStation Store gift card
A gift card can add wallet funds, but only when its region matches the account. Buy from a seller that identifies the supported country/region, and use the physical card’s flag as a second check when applicable. Keep the receipt and listing details until the funds are successfully added.
How to buy and redeem the right voucher
- Sign in to the intended PlayStation account. Do not rely on the country shown by a retailer’s storefront. The relevant region is the one stored on the account that will redeem the code.
- Confirm the account’s country/region. Review the country/region shown in your PlayStation account details. If you cannot determine it, ask PlayStation Support before purchasing a code; Sony does not provide a post-creation country change.
- Match the voucher region exactly. For a physical card, compare its country/region flag with the account. For a digital voucher, check the seller’s stated region and any restrictions before payment.
- Redeem while signed in to that account. Use the normal voucher-redemption function on the PlayStation console or the official PlayStation account interface. The code must be entered on the account whose region it matches.
- Verify the wallet balance. Confirm that the funds were added before buying a game. Keep the code and proof of purchase until the transaction is complete.
If the code is foreign, stop before attempting repeated redemptions. Contact the retailer about its return or exchange policy, and provide the account and voucher-region information. PlayStation Support cannot change the account’s country simply to make a mismatched code work.

Sony’s cited documentation does not authorize VPN use, false billing details or other region-bypass methods. It explains the account-country rule and the voucher-matching rule, but it does not publish a supported VPN workaround.

A VPN can alter the apparent location of an internet connection; it does not rewrite the country stored on a PlayStation account. Consequently, it does not remove the requirement that a voucher match the account region. Entering an untrue billing address is likewise not described by Sony as an approved way to change the account country or qualify for another market’s pricing.
The available Sony guidance does not establish whether a particular bypass attempt will trigger an account sanction, nor does it establish that such methods are safe. That uncertainty is a reason not to treat third-party “region unlock” sellers or instructions as an official bargain. You could end up with a code that cannot be redeemed and no supported account-setting change to correct the mismatch.

Check the account region first
Make sure you are signed in to the account that owns the intended purchases and verify its stored country/region. A family member’s account, a second login or a recently created account may have a different region from the one you expected.
Check the code’s region
Compare the physical card’s flag or the digital listing’s regional description with the account information. A foreign code is the most direct explanation when a voucher will not redeem on an otherwise valid account.

Keep the seller’s evidence
Save the receipt, order confirmation and the product page showing the advertised region. These details are useful when requesting help from the retailer. Do not publish the full code when asking for assistance.
Do not use a VPN as a redemption fix
Changing the connection’s apparent location does not satisfy Sony’s same-region voucher requirement. Resolve the mismatch through the seller’s support or return process instead of repeatedly trying different networks.
What is—and is not—known about regional savings
Regional prices can differ because Store catalogs and services vary by country, but no published statistic in the cited Sony material quantifies the savings a customer would obtain by buying from another region. There is therefore no evidence-based percentage discount to promise, and no guarantee that a lower displayed foreign price would translate into a successful purchase for your account.
Gift-card availability, Store promotions and pricing can change. Recheck the current PlayStation Support guidance and the exact product terms immediately before buying. The durable rules are the account’s fixed country and Sony’s requirement that a voucher match that region.
