Your Primary Residence is selected when you first enter the ‘verse. To set up somewhere else afterward, you must move your ships and belongings manually. You can change where you respawn, but that is a separate setting and does not change your Primary Residence.
What Primary Residence means
After creating a character, you select a Primary Residence the first time you enter the ‘verse. That choice determines where you initially start and where your starting items, equipment, ships, vehicles, and initial respawn point are located, according to RSI’s Personal Inventory guidance, updated June 10, 2026.
RSI’s guidance does not describe an in-game option for changing that original selection later. If you want to base yourself elsewhere, you need to relocate your property in-game.
How to set up at another location
Move the items and ships you want to use to your intended destination. RSI says that local inventory is specific to a spaceport and is not shared between planets, so belongings stored at one location do not automatically become available at another. Its guidance states: “Once you are in-game you will need to manually relocate any items, ships, or other goods yourself if you wish to setup elsewhere.”

Before relocating, consider what you will need at the destination and arrange to transport it with your ships. RSI does not describe an automatic transfer of belongings when you choose to operate from a different location.
How to change your spawn location
If you mean where your character respawns—not where your starting property is based—visit a Clinic or Hospital bed in a landing zone to change your spawn location. RSI treats this as a spawn change, not a change to your selected Primary Residence; the guidance does not say that it moves stored belongings or changes the original residence selection.

Choosing a residence when you first enter
For new players with little equipment, RSI suggests choosing a location that sounds appealing from its in-game description. If you already have equipment or ships, choose based on your needs. For example, RSI notes that New Babbage may suit a player with land vehicles because its hangar can accommodate them.
Location can also affect the kind of start you want. RSI’s location guide, updated July 27, 2026, says new players can start in Stanton, Pyro, or Nyx, and describes Stanton as safer for learning than lawless Pyro or frontier-centric Nyx. These are considerations rather than a universal recommendation; the right choice depends on your play style and what you plan to bring.

Why Character Repair is not a residence-change method
RSI describes Character Repair as a last resort for a detrimental bug affecting your avatar. The process cannot be halted or reversed after it starts. Although RSI says it sends the player to their spawn point, it does not describe Character Repair as a way to change Primary Residence or relocate property.

RSI’s published guidance does not address whether Player Relations will make an account-specific exception. There is no documented exception to rely on, so plan on keeping the original selection and moving your property yourself if you want to set up elsewhere.
