Yes. Leaving the Deserter’s encampment does not permanently lock the quest. Its intended route takes you out of the camp, across a long bridge and into the next section to collect the third Anubis Figurine Part. If you walked away before finishing, return to the Under the Bridge Lantern; fast travel to that lantern is reported to be available after Chapter 5.
What happens when you leave the Deserter area?
The Deserter quest begins in the Vale of Wrath, near the Under the Bridge Lantern. The first area can make the quest look self-contained because the objective involves searching the nearby encampment and its apiaries. It is not, however, a one-area errand. The quest route itself sends you away from the camp and over a long bridge.

That bridge crossing is part of normal progress, not a failure state. The third Anubis Figurine Part is obtained after leaving the encampment and entering the next section. In other words, moving away from the starting area is expected during a complete run.

If you left without collecting every part, the important question is not whether you crossed the boundary. Check whether the quest remains in your journal and whether you can reach the Under the Bridge Lantern. Those two checks determine the practical recovery route.

What you need to collect
The Deserter requires three Anubis Figurine Parts. They are hidden in beehives rather than presented as obvious, marked quest objects.
- There is one relevant, unmarked hive in each of three apiaries.
- Visible hives are not automatically quest targets; searching every hive you notice can waste time without advancing the objective.
- The third part is beyond the encampment, after the long bridge, in the next section.
The unmarked-hive detail matters if your journal shows incomplete progress. Do not use quest markers alone as proof that an apiary has been cleared. Track the three apiaries and confirm the relevant hive in each one.
Step-by-step recovery after leaving the area
Use this sequence if you departed the Vale of Wrath section before rebuilding the figurine.

This separates an unfinished quest from a quest that has already completed but has not been noticed.
- Return to the Under the Bridge Lantern. This is the quest’s starting landmark in the Vale of Wrath and the most reliable reference point for re-entering the route.
- Check the three apiaries. Search the single unmarked hive associated with each apiary. Do not assume that every visible hive counts, and do not mark an apiary complete merely because you inspected a nearby object.
- Follow the route out of the encampment. Once the local hive checks are done, continue toward the long bridge. Leaving the camp is required for the final part rather than something that cancels the quest.
- Cross the long bridge into the next section. Keep the quest active while moving through this transition. The third part is found after this departure from the encampment.
- Collect the third Anubis Figurine Part. This is the item that brings the count to three. If the journal still shows fewer than three, return to the unmarked hives before assuming the bridge route failed.
- Verify completion. Collecting the third part rebuilds the Anubis Figurine and completes The Deserter. A completed objective in the journal is the useful confirmation; merely reaching the bridge is not.
This order works whether you left voluntarily, moved on to another objective, or continued into later chapters before returning. The key is to resume from the lantern and finish the missing hive checks and bridge segment rather than searching for a separate reset prompt.

Where to find the last Anubis Figurine Part
Players commonly look for the final part among the hives in the starting encampment. That is the wrong search pattern if the first two parts are already recorded. The third part is tied to the route beyond the camp.
Use the bridge as your route marker
From the encampment, continue until you reach the long bridge. Cross it into the next section and continue the Deserter route there. The bridge is the practical dividing line between the local apiary search and the final collection step.
Do not count ordinary hives
The relevant hive in each apiary is unmarked. Because the quest does not identify every visible hive as a target, a quick visual sweep can leave one part uncollected. If the figurine does not rebuild, revisit each of the three apiaries and inspect the unmarked hive rather than only the most conspicuous objects.

The quest does not finish simply because you have visited all three apiaries or crossed the bridge. The completion trigger is collecting the third part and thereby rebuilding the Anubis Figurine. Use that result, not your location, as the final test.

Can you return to Under the Bridge after Chapter 5?
A walkthrough reports fast-travel access to the Under the Bridge Lantern after Chapter 5. If you advanced that far before remembering The Deserter, select the lantern from the fast-travel map and resume the route from the Vale of Wrath.
If the lantern is not available in your current save, check the following before concluding that the quest is lost:
- Confirm that Chapter 5 has actually been reached on that save, rather than relying on progress from another character or playthrough.
- Check the quest journal for The Deserter and its current part count.
- Look for the Under the Bridge Lantern by ordinary travel if fast travel is not yet displayed.
- Return to the three apiaries and inspect the unmarked hive in each before crossing the bridge again.
Fast-travel availability can depend on progression and the game version running on your system. The reported post-Chapter 5 route is therefore a recovery option, not a reason to assume that every earlier save exposes the lantern immediately.
When should you finish the quest?
You can finish The Deserter at different points without treating departure from the area as a permanent choice. The practical differences are travel convenience and how much of the route you have already covered.

The most useful choice is the one that matches your current journal state. If two parts are recorded, prioritize the bridge and next section. If fewer are recorded, methodically check the unmarked hives first.
Is The Deserter permanently missable?
Available side-quest checklists identify The Choir as the only reported permanently missable side quest and describe most other quests as completable after the story. That broader pattern supports treating The Deserter as recoverable after leaving its starting area.
This does not guarantee identical behavior in every future patch or every save. If an update changes quest flags, verify that The Deserter remains in the journal and that the Under the Bridge Lantern route is present. A missing journal entry, an unavailable lantern and an incomplete objective are different problems, so record which one you are seeing before troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting if the quest will not complete
The journal shows fewer than three parts
Return to the Vale of Wrath and recheck the three apiaries. The targets are one unmarked hive per apiary, not every hive in sight. After confirming the local hives, cross the long bridge and search the next section for the final part.

You crossed the bridge but the figurine did not rebuild
Crossing is only the route to the final objective. The completion event occurs when you collect the third part. Reopen the journal, identify the missing count, and search the appropriate apiary or the section beyond the bridge instead of repeatedly crossing back and forth.
Fast travel does not show Under the Bridge
Use ordinary travel to reach the lantern if the map does not list it. Also check whether the save has reached Chapter 5, since the reported fast-travel access is tied to that progression point. Do not treat the absence of a fast-travel icon alone as proof that The Deserter is locked.
The quest is absent from the journal
An absent entry is different from an unfinished entry. Confirm that you are using the intended save and that the quest was actually started near the Under the Bridge Lantern. If the entry disappeared after a patch or other unusual state change, the available walkthrough evidence cannot establish a universal recovery command; preserve the save and verify the current patch behavior before abandoning it.
A quick completion checklist
- The Deserter appears in the quest journal.
- The starting landmark is the Under the Bridge Lantern in the Vale of Wrath.
- Three apiaries have been checked.
- One unmarked hive in each apiary has been inspected.
- The encampment’s long bridge has been crossed.
- The next section has been searched for the third Anubis Figurine Part.
- The third part has been collected.
- The Anubis Figurine has rebuilt and the journal marks the quest complete.
Leaving the Deserter area is therefore a normal part of the route, not a point of no return. Return through the Under the Bridge Lantern, use the journal’s part count to identify what remains, check the three unmarked apiary hives, and finish by collecting the third part beyond the long bridge.
