DS2Win Fusion offered a broader Windows client/server interface, while streamer-ds attempted desktop streaming. These projects are old, however, and the available documentation does not establish that they work with current PC operating systems or modern Wi-Fi security.
What can a Nintendo DS do as a PC controller?
The answer depends on whether you want to send input to the computer or view its desktop on the DS. Those are separate tasks, and the most practical documented approach is input control rather than streaming the PC screen.

| DS2Key | Sends key signals, emulates a PC gamepad, and uses the touchscreen to control the PC mouse. | GameBrew lists version 1.01 (r44+r52), last updated January 20, 2009, and notes known issues. Compatibility with current host operating systems is not established. GameBrew DS2Key entry; community documentation. |
| DS2Win Fusion | A Windows PC server works with a DS client for remote-screen functions and controls. | An archived guide describes a Wi-Fi connection and UDP port 8888. The instructions are historical, not confirmation of compatibility with current Windows releases. Archived DS2Win Fusion guide. |
| streamer-ds | Streams desktop images to the DS; its author also experimented with input. | The project reports slow frame intervals and says control through its streaming loop was effectively unusable. These are implementation-specific project notes, not independent benchmark results. streamer-ds project. |
How do you control a computer with a DS?
At a high level, the DS runs a homebrew .nds client, and a corresponding PC program runs on the host when the software requires one. Both devices need to communicate over a compatible local network. An archived DS2Win Fusion guide describes entering the PC’s IP address on the DS and allowing UDP port 8888 through the PC firewall. The guide is old; its menu labels and setup steps may not match current systems.
That historical port instruction is not a recommendation to expose the computer to the internet. Do not forward the port from your router to the public internet for this purpose: the sources do not establish modern security protections for these applications. Even on a local network, only change firewall rules if you understand the exposure and can remove the rule afterward.

Getting homebrew to launch
The DS-Homebrew documentation describes flashcards as a route for running nds-bootstrap on a Nintendo DS. For DSi and 3DS systems, it describes SD-card use through custom firmware. That general homebrew guidance does not certify DS2Key, DS2Win Fusion, or any particular flashcard as compatible. DS-Homebrew nds-bootstrap documentation.
Can you use the DS touchscreen as a mouse?
DS2Key’s documentation specifically describes touchscreen mouse control alongside key signals and gamepad-like input. Its community documentation also records limitations, including incomplete mouse coverage and configuration problems. Treat that as a description of an old application’s intended features, not a guarantee that every touch gesture or modern desktop interface will behave correctly. DS2Key documentation.

Can you see your PC screen on a DS?
DS2Win Fusion is the documented option here for a broader remote-screen interface, but its archived Windows client/server setup is legacy software. The separate streamer-ds project illustrates why screen viewing is a different proposition from sending controller inputs: its README reports about 0.3 seconds per 128-pixel frame and about 0.6 seconds per 256-pixel frame, and calls controlling the desktop through that streaming loop effectively unusable. Those figures are the project’s own implementation-specific estimates; they are not a general measure of DS networking performance. streamer-ds project notes.
Why setup may fail on a modern network or PC
Wi-Fi security mismatch
An older technical guide says Nintendo DS Wi-Fi supports WEP but not WPA. WEP is obsolete and unsafe for general network use, so this legacy capability can be a compatibility obstacle today. Do not weaken your everyday Wi-Fi security or create an insecure network just to try old homebrew. OSDL Nintendo DS Wi-Fi guide.

Unverified PC compatibility
DS2Key’s listed version dates to 2009, and the DS2Win Fusion instructions are archived. The available documentation provides no current Windows or Linux compatibility matrix, so a successful launch on one old setup would not establish that the software works reliably on a present-day computer.
Missing or incompatible homebrew setup
Homebrew launch methods depend on the DS family and its setup. The nds-bootstrap documentation describes general routes for DS versus DSi/3DS, but does not verify a particular card or control app. If the client does not launch, first distinguish a homebrew-loading problem from a network or PC-server problem rather than assuming the controller software itself is at fault. Is this a practical way to control a PC today?
It is best understood as a retro-computing experiment, not a dependable replacement for a current keyboard, mouse, or game controller. The documentation supports the concept—especially DS2Key’s input features—but does not prove current operating-system compatibility, safe modern networking, or reliable performance on today’s PCs. If you already have a suitable homebrew setup and can isolate the network safely, the historical projects may be worth exploring; otherwise, their age and unresolved compatibility make them a poor choice for routine PC control.
