Yes. You can change the paint and color schemes of compatible vehicles using CrystalCoat and TwinTone. It is visual customization—not a full system for changing engines, performance parts, or every car’s appearance. Compatibility depends on the vehicle and the scheme.
What vehicle customization includes
CrystalCoat lets you change paint on supported vehicles. TwinTone lets you scan a vehicle’s color scheme with Kiroshi optics and save it for a small in-game fee. The features offer paint and color options; the official descriptions do not establish a broader mechanical tuning system.
In Update 2.2, CD PROJEKT RED expanded CrystalCoat beyond Rayfield vehicles to include eligible Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra, and Villefort models. Update 2.3 later broadened the feature to more vehicles and described custom paint options for almost all rides. “Almost all” does not mean every vehicle or scheme is compatible.
How to change a vehicle’s color
- Find a compatible vehicle. At Autofixer, look for the spray-can icon on the vehicle listing; it indicates CrystalCoat compatibility.
- Choose a scheme. Use the CrystalCoat menu to select an available paint scheme for the vehicle.
- Scan schemes for TwinTone. When you see a vehicle with a color scheme you want, scan it with Kiroshi optics and save it through TwinTone if the scheme is eligible.
- Apply the saved scheme. Select it in the customization options for a compatible target vehicle. The scheme’s compatibility determines which vehicles can use it.
Why a scanned scheme may not work on your car
TwinTone schemes fall into two broad categories. Generic schemes can be used on compatible vehicles across models; unique schemes are tied to the corresponding vehicle model. A scan therefore does not make every color available on every car.

You cannot clone schemes from quest-linked vehicles, NCPD vehicles, or vehicles that are incompatible with CrystalCoat. If a scheme cannot be saved or applied, check both the source vehicle’s eligibility and the target vehicle’s compatibility.
Which versions and platforms include it?
Vehicle customization arrived in Update 2.2, released December 10, 2024. Update 2.3, announced July 16, 2025, added further vehicle options and is free for owners of the base game. CD PROJEKT RED says Phantom Liberty and Ultimate Edition are not required. The Update 2.3 FAQ lists Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Mac. Available platform features and menus can depend on the installed version.

Update 2.2 also added 10 vehicles for purchase through Autofixer, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s Update 2.2 notes. That is a vehicle-acquisition addition, separate from the number of vehicles that can be customized.

CD PROJEKT RED Associate Game Director Paweł Sasko explained that Update 2.2 extended CrystalCoat to Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra, and Villefort vehicles alongside Rayfield. In the same Xbox Wire interview published December 10, 2024, Virtuos Lead Producer Pauline Debroux described TwinTone’s distinction: generic schemes can be applied to any compatible car, while unique schemes belong to their corresponding model.
