You can’t install the current Roblox PC app as a supported download on Windows 8. Roblox’s current requirements list 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, not Windows 8. Check whether your PC can run one of those supported versions; if it can’t, use another compatible device.
Why Roblox won’t install on Windows 8
Roblox states that its PC app installs on “64-bit versions of Windows 10, or Windows 11.” Windows 8 is not on that list, so Roblox does not document the current player as supported on Windows 8. See Roblox’s computer hardware and operating system requirements.
Opening Roblox’s website in a browser is not the same as installing or running the game client. Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge as supported PC/Windows browsers, but browser support does not establish that the Windows 8 app is compatible. The app also requires DirectX 10-or-higher feature-level support; meeting that graphics requirement does not make an unsupported operating system supported.
Your practical options
Upgrade the existing PC, if it supports a listed Windows version
Check the computer’s hardware and software compatibility with Windows 10 or Windows 11 before attempting an upgrade. If it can run a supported 64-bit version, then check Roblox’s current hardware requirements as well. The requirements page does not determine whether a particular Windows 8 computer can be upgraded, or what an upgrade would cost.

Use a different compatible computer
If the current PC cannot run a supported Windows version, another computer that meets Roblox’s listed OS and hardware requirements is an alternative. The requirements do not mean every Windows 8 user needs to buy a new computer; upgrade feasibility depends on the individual device.
How to install Roblox on a supported Windows PC
- Confirm the PC runs 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 and meets Roblox’s current system requirements.
- Go to Roblox’s official Windows download page: roblox.com/download.
- Follow the on-page download and installation instructions. These steps apply to a supported Windows PC; they do not provide a Windows 8 workaround.

Don’t confuse Roblox Studio with the player app
Roblox Studio is the creation tool, not the app used to play Roblox experiences. Its installation documentation is separate: Roblox Creator Hub’s Studio setup guide. Studio instructions do not show that the player app works on Windows 8.

Roblox’s cited requirements and installation guidance do not endorse compatibility spoofing, modified clients, unofficial installers, or emulator workarounds as supported ways to run the current player on Windows 8. That means there is no official Windows 8 method to recommend; it does not prove that every unofficial method is impossible or malicious. For a supported installation, use Roblox’s official download flow on a PC that meets its requirements.
