Since Bungie’s Update 9.1.0.2 on September 23, 2025, each completion of the exotic’s source encounter has a chance to drop it, with no weekly lockout. The chance is not a guaranteed drop. Bungie’s change is scoped to legacy activities, so it does not confirm the rule for the newest dungeon.
How farming a legacy dungeon exotic works
Bungie’s Update 9.1.0.2 removed the weekly lockout on exotic weapon rewards in legacy raid and dungeon activities. Its patch notes say these exotics “now have a chance to drop each time their source encounter is completed.”

In practice, repeat the encounter that is the source of the exotic you want. Completing other encounters in the dungeon does not meet the source-encounter condition Bungie describes. Each eligible clear gives another chance, but Bungie has not published a drop-rate percentage or promised a drop after a particular number of clears.
Does the rule apply to every dungeon?
Legacy dungeons
Yes. The weekly-lockout removal explicitly covers legacy dungeon activities. You can replay the exotic’s source encounter for another chance after each completion.

#1 Best Overall
- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
The newest dungeon
The update’s wording does not establish that the newest dungeon follows the same rule. Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 discusses featured dungeons and lists farmable weapon and armor rewards, but that listing does not specify whether the newest dungeon’s exotic can be farmed or has a weekly lockout. Do not treat the legacy change as confirmation for that dungeon.
What featured dungeon rewards do—and don’t—tell you
Bungie has described weekly featured raids and dungeons as opportunities for additional high-tier rewards, and its update notes list farmable featured dungeon weapons and armor. That activity-rotation information is separate from the exotic rule: it does not, by itself, confirm repeated exotic drops from the newest dungeon. For legacy dungeons, the decisive rule remains the source-encounter change in Update 9.1.0.2.
