You can’t obtain new trade tokens in Pokémon TCG Pocket: they were discontinued in the July 2025 trading update. Trading no longer consumes cards; for trades involving ♦♦♦, ♦♦♦♦, and ★ cards, the relevant cost is Shinedust. If you still have old tokens, check the in-game Shop to see whether its announced exchange is still available.
Can you still get trade tokens?
No. The Pokémon Company announced in July 2025 that trade tokens would be discontinued. An earlier development-team statement from January 31, 2025, said the game planned to add ways to obtain tokens, including event distributions, but that plan was superseded by the later change. There is no current method to earn new trade tokens.
The July update also removed the requirement to consume cards to trade. The current question is therefore not how to farm tokens, but what a trade costs under the revised rules.
What do trades use instead?
Shinedust is required for trades involving ♦♦♦, ♦♦♦♦, and ★ rarity cards. The amount depends on the trade; check the in-game trade rules, which display the Shinedust cost before you complete it. Pokémon Support also explains that trades are subject to same-rarity constraints, so check the eligible cards and displayed requirements in the trade screen.

When the July 2025 update launched, the Shop offered an exchange of existing trade tokens for pack hourglasses and Shinedust. The official sources reviewed do not establish whether that legacy exchange is still available now. Open the in-game Shop and check its current offers if you have tokens remaining; do not assume they can still be exchanged.
