RPCS3 is a PlayStation 3 emulator for desktop operating systems; its official materials do not list PS4 as a supported platform or give a PS4 installation procedure.
What RPCS3 supports
RPCS3 emulates PlayStation 3 software. The project describes it as a PlayStation 3 emulator and debugger for Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD. Those are desktop host operating systems, not PlayStation 4. See the RPCS3 project repository and its linked official Quickstart for current platform requirements and setup guidance.
The RPCS3 FAQ likewise does not document PS4 as a supported host or provide steps for installing the emulator on one. That means there is no official PS4 setup sequence to follow.
Why a PS4 USB update guide won’t install RPCS3
Sony’s USB and Safe Mode instructions are for updating or reinstalling the PS4’s own system software. They do not install third-party software or turn the console into an RPCS3 host. If a guide tells you to copy a PS4 system software file to a USB drive, it is describing a console update or reinstall, not an RPCS3 installation. Follow Sony’s PS4 system software instructions only if you intend to update or reinstall the console software.

What to do instead
To use RPCS3, set it up on a supported desktop operating system and follow the project’s Quickstart for the current requirements and installation steps. Consult the FAQ if you need help with platform support or setup questions.
Claims that a PS4 jailbreak, Linux boot, or other unofficial modification makes RPCS3 work on a PS4 are not verified by the official sources cited here. They are not an official RPCS3-supported setup, so this guide cannot provide reliable installation steps for them.
