If ANBERNIC stops selling or shipping to the United States, an ANBERNIC handheld you already own should continue to run its installed firmware and locally stored games. A sales withdrawal changes how new products reach U.S. buyers; it does not, by itself, remotely disable devices already sold.
The more serious risk is loss of future support: official firmware downloads, repairs, replacement parts, warranty service and customer-service replies could become harder to obtain if the relevant business operations ended. Features that depend on an account or an outside server are a separate case.

What happened to ANBERNIC’s U.S. sales?
On April 21, 2025, Gizmodo reported that ANBERNIC would suspend direct shipments from China to U.S. customers because of uncertainty around U.S. tariff policy. The report quoted the company notice as saying, “due to changes in U.S. tariff policies, we will be suspending all shipping from China to the United States starting today.” It also quoted ANBERNIC recommending that buyers prioritize products shipped from its U.S. warehouse.
That was a change to a sales and fulfillment route, not an announcement that ANBERNIC had closed, withdrawn every product from the country or disabled existing handhelds. It is also historical information rather than a statement of the current U.S. shipping policy.

As of October 13, 2026, ANBERNIC’s official store displays worldwide shipping and links to support and order information. Its store warranty wording says: “Within the 12-month warranty period, we support to provide replacement repair parts for free.” That describes the terms shown at the time of checking; it is not a promise that those services would continue after a hypothetical shutdown.
Why an owned handheld normally keeps working
Most ANBERNIC handhelds boot from firmware installed on the device or on removable storage, and games can be stored locally. Those components do not need a continuing U.S. sales channel. If the company stops shipping to your country, the handheld still has the same processor, display, controls, battery and storage it had before the policy change.
That conclusion is about local operation, not a model-by-model guarantee. Continued use still depends on ordinary factors such as battery health, a working storage card, undamaged hardware, compatible game files and firmware that has not been corrupted. A company stopping sales is not evidence of a remote deactivation mechanism.

Offline play
Games and emulators already present on the handheld can generally be used without contacting ANBERNIC. Save files and configuration data remain available if they are stored on the device or its card and the storage remains readable. You should not assume that every menu item or add-on behaves this way: a feature requiring an account, cloud synchronization, a download service or another server can be affected by the provider’s availability.

What a regional sales withdrawal does not do
- It does not erase locally stored games or save files.
- It does not change the installed firmware merely because a U.S. warehouse stops accepting orders.
- It does not prove that the handheld has an always-on account check.
- It does not extend or cancel a warranty; warranty rights depend on the applicable seller’s and manufacturer’s terms and timing.
Sales withdrawal versus a complete company shutdown
These are different scenarios. A U.S. shipping pause mainly affects availability and delivery. A company closure or total support withdrawal could affect future maintenance, but it still would not automatically turn a functioning, locally operated handheld off.

What you could lose if support disappears
Firmware and recovery files
ANBERNIC’s firmware-download page currently lists downloads for multiple models. A download page is useful only while the files remain hosted and identifiable. If you wait until a handheld is already stuck in a boot loop or has a blank screen, finding the correct image may be harder.
Firmware is model-specific. Hardware revisions can use different files, and flashing an image intended for another model can create a new fault. Save the exact model name and revision printed on the unit, box or system menu before archiving anything. Keep the instructions with the file rather than relying on a generic “ANBERNIC firmware” search later.
Repairs, parts and warranty service
The current store describes free replacement repair parts within a 12-month warranty period. That is a present support pathway, not an indefinite supply commitment. A closure could leave owners dependent on independent repairers, donor devices or whatever compatible parts are already in circulation.

A sales withdrawal also does not make every existing warranty invalid on the same day. Your practical options depend on the purchase date, the seller that took payment, the written warranty and whether parts or service remain available in your region. Keep invoices, order numbers and warranty correspondence in a safe place.
Customer-service knowledge
Support replies can contain model-specific instructions that are not obvious from a product listing. If the company ceases answering questions, owners may lose access to that advice even when the hardware remains repairable. Save instructions for your own model, including recovery-card preparation, button combinations and any warnings about battery connections.
Online and account-dependent functions
Do not treat “the handheld works offline” as proof that every feature will survive a shutdown. A locally installed emulator is different from an account-based storefront, cloud save, online leaderboard or third-party network service. The available support material does not provide a complete inventory of such dependencies for every ANBERNIC model, so the correct answer is model- and service-specific.

- Record the exact identity of the device. Write down the model, hardware revision, operating-system version and storage-card size. Photograph labels and the system-information screen. This prevents you from applying instructions for a similar-looking but incompatible handheld.
- Back up saves and settings. Copy personal save files, configuration folders and legally obtained game files to another location where the device and software permit it. Open a few copied saves on a computer or second storage device so you know the backup is readable.
- Preserve the current recovery path. Save the model-specific firmware page, installation instructions and any files you are entitled to keep for personal recovery. A web address alone is not a backup if the host later removes the file.
- Prepare removable storage carefully. Some models support a microSD card, while capacities, partitions and flashing procedures vary. Use a card only when your model supports it, and check the model-specific capacity and imaging instructions before changing anything. Buying a card is optional; it is not required simply because U.S. sales might stop.
- Keep purchase and support records. Store receipts, order confirmations, warranty dates and previous support exchanges offline. These documents matter if you need a seller return, a repair claim or a replacement part while the applicable service still exists.
- Do not flash firmware pre-emptively. Flashing is a recovery or troubleshooting action, not routine maintenance. Use the instructions for your exact model and follow every warning about card preparation, power and file selection.
What to do when something goes wrong
Blank screen or display problem
ANBERNIC’s support article for screen or display problems lists a firmware flash as a troubleshooting step and links to the model firmware page. That does not mean flashing is the first remedy for every black screen. Check power, charging and physical connections first, then use the named model’s instructions. If the procedure does not match your hardware revision, stop rather than guessing.

Boot loop on RG35XX H, RG35XX Plus or RG35XX 2024
ANBERNIC has separate guidance for boot-loop cases on those models. The procedure discusses reconnecting the battery and flashing firmware, followed by contacting customer service if the problem remains. Because those are device-specific directions, do not copy them to another handheld without confirming that the model is covered.
Storage-card failure
If the handheld boots inconsistently, freezes at a logo or loses saves, the card may be damaged or corrupted. Remove the card only when the model’s instructions allow it, make a sector-level or file backup where possible, and replace it with a compatible card after checking the official capacity and flashing guidance. A new card cannot restore files that were never backed up.
When to stop troubleshooting
Stop if the device becomes hot, the battery swells, the screen or connector is physically damaged, or the instructions require opening the case and you are not qualified to do that work. Manufacturer articles are written for particular faults; they are not permission to perform risky repairs casually. Use a competent repair service when the likely fault is electrical or mechanical.

A regional sales withdrawal can leave several supply routes, but each carries a different risk. U.S.-warehouse stock may offer simpler delivery and returns while it lasts. An import from another region can expose you to shipping delays, taxes, seller-specific warranty terms and difficulty sending a defective unit back. A marketplace listing can be genuine, but the listing itself does not establish current inventory, authorization or after-sales coverage.

The April 2025 report mentioned U.S.-warehouse products and marketplace routes such as Amazon and AliExpress in the context of that period. It does not prove that a particular seller has stock, is authorized, or offers the same warranty today. Check the seller’s current return policy, shipping origin, warranty process and exact model revision before paying.
A practical decision rule
If you already own the handheld, keep using it and make your backups while official files and support pages are accessible. The immediate risk from a U.S. sales pause is access to new units, not a shutdown of local play.
If you are deciding whether to buy, evaluate the device as hardware that you may eventually need to maintain yourself. Confirm that you can identify the correct firmware, copy your saves, obtain compatible storage and find a repair option independent of the manufacturer. Treat continued access to online services as conditional unless the specific model and service documentation say otherwise.
Bottom line
An ANBERNIC handheld you already own should remain usable if ANBERNIC stops selling in the United States. Locally installed firmware and games are separate from the company’s shipping channel. A full company shutdown would mainly threaten future downloads, repairs, parts, warranty handling and support, while account- or server-dependent features require a separate model-by-model assessment. Back up your data, preserve the correct recovery files and avoid unverified firmware procedures.
