Yes—if you stream from a computer. YouTube’s computer streaming guidance does not state a subscriber minimum, so a channel with zero subscribers can use a webcam or streaming encoder if it meets the other requirements. The YouTube mobile app is different: it requires at least 50 subscribers. Either way, the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16.
Can I go live on YouTube with 0 subscribers?
Yes, using a computer route such as webcam streaming or an encoder. YouTube’s official computer instructions do not list a minimum subscriber count. That does not mean every new channel can go live immediately: verification, channel standing, age, and activation still matter.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips say a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Check the channel’s live-stream feature status in YouTube Studio rather than relying on subscriber count alone.
Does the subscriber rule change by device?
| Streaming route | Subscriber requirement | Other requirements and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Computer: webcam or encoder | YouTube’s official computer guidance does not state a minimum. | Verify the channel, meet the age requirement, have no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days, and enable live streaming. |
| YouTube mobile app | At least 50 subscribers. | Verify the channel, meet the age requirement, have no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days, enable live streaming, and use a supported mobile device. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. |
For mobile channels with 50–999 subscribers, YouTube may limit the mobile audience and make the live archive private by default. After a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, removal of the audience limitation may take several weeks.

Requirements to check before your first stream
- Channel verification: YouTube requires a verified channel for live streaming.
- Recent channel standing: The channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Creator age: YouTube’s guidance, effective July 22, 2025, requires creators to be at least 16 to live stream.
- Live-stream activation: Turn on live streaming for the channel. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to stream.
YouTube also has rules for under-16 participants appearing with an adult. Check its current age guidance if a minor will appear in the broadcast.
How to get started with no subscribers
- Choose a computer route. If you have zero subscribers and want to stream now, use YouTube’s webcam or encoder option on a computer rather than the mobile app.
- Verify your channel. Complete YouTube’s channel verification process, then check YouTube Studio for live-stream access or any restriction notices.
- Enable live streaming. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
- Set up the broadcast. Follow YouTube’s current webcam or encoder instructions, then confirm that the stream is active in YouTube Studio before sharing it.
- Review the channel’s status if access is blocked. Subscriber count is not the only eligibility gate; check verification, activation, age, and restriction notices.
If YouTube says you cannot stream
- Mobile app blocked at zero subscribers: This is expected; mobile live streaming requires 50 subscribers. Switch to a computer route if you meet its other requirements.
- Live streaming is not available just after enabling it: First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Wait for activation, then check Studio again.
- Channel is unverified or Studio shows a restriction: Resolve the verification or channel-status issue indicated by YouTube. The 90-day restriction lookback can prevent streaming even when the channel has enough subscribers.
- You are under 16: You cannot live stream as the creator under YouTube’s current minimum-age rule. Consult YouTube’s guidance for requirements when under-16 participants appear with an adult.
- You are considering another channel to get around a restriction: Do not do this. YouTube warns that circumventing a live-stream restriction can violate its terms and may lead to account termination.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your plan is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than a way around YouTube eligibility rules. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo keeps the loop running without a computer or home connection staying on.
