Not with the macro feature Microsoft documents for standard Xbox controllers. On PC, Microsoft documents remapping buttons and mapping certain controller inputs to keyboard keys—not recording and replaying a timed sequence of actions. Microsoft’s documented macro workflow is for its Adaptive Accessories, a separate product category.
What does “macro” mean here?
Microsoft Support defines a macro as “a series of actions that can happen in a single button press,” in its instructions for Microsoft Adaptive Accessories. That is different from remapping, where one button sends a different single input, such as another controller button or a keyboard key.
So if you mean “make one press perform several timed controller actions,” the Microsoft PC controller features documented in the sources below do not establish that capability for a standard Xbox controller.
What Xbox controller features are documented on PC?
Button remapping and profiles
Microsoft describes remapping and profiles for the Xbox Adaptive Controller through the Xbox Accessories app on Windows 10 and Windows 11. These are customization features; the product information does not describe recording and replaying a multi-action sequence. Xbox Adaptive Controller

Mapping a button or port to a keyboard key
Xbox Wire says the Xbox Accessories app can map an Elite Series 2 button or an Xbox Adaptive Controller port to a keyboard key on PC. This sends a mapped key input; it is not evidence of a sequence macro. Whether the game accepts keyboard input—and how much of it works—depends on the game: support may be full, partial, or absent. What about Microsoft’s Adaptive Accessories macros?
Microsoft documents creating macros in Microsoft Accessory Center for its Adaptive Accessories. The workflow can record keyboard or mouse input and includes options such as inserting text, opening an app, pausing, adding delays, and moving the cursor; a macro can then be assigned to an adaptive button in a profile. This is a separate accessory workflow, not a documented way to add sequence macros to a standard Xbox controller. Microsoft Support: How to use macros with your Microsoft adaptive accessories

What should you use for your goal?
- To change what one button does: Check the Xbox Accessories app features for your specific controller. Microsoft documents keyboard mapping for the Elite Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive Controller; the Adaptive Controller product page also describes remapping and profiles.
- To make one press send a sequence: The Microsoft controller documentation cited here does not verify that feature for standard Xbox controllers. Third-party PC utilities may offer other options, but their current compatibility with your controller is not established here.
- To use a mapped keyboard input in a game: Check the game’s input support. A game may accept keyboard input fully, partially, or not at all.
- Before relying on automation: Check the specific game’s rules as well as the utility’s current device support. The cited Microsoft documentation does not settle either question for third-party tools.
