No—you cannot permanently miss Frenzied Flame in Valor Mortis. The bronze trophy remains obtainable after the story, because the game returns you to free roam and keeps earlier areas accessible. Reach Fortress, travel to the Chapel, enter its underground route, and cast Fire Transmutation on the sword planted in the floor. The bonfire ignites and the trophy should unlock.
The Steam achievement objective is exact: “Ignite the bonfire in the castle.” Current trophy roadmaps list zero missable trophies overall, and independent guides classify Frenzied Flame as “Missable No.”

What the Frenzied Flame trophy requires
Frenzied Flame is tied to one environmental interaction rather than a boss, ending, collectible set, or branching decision. You must ignite the castle bonfire in the Fortress area by using Fire Transmutation on a sword embedded in the ground. The sword is below the Fortress Chapel, in an underground sewer section reached through a short traversal route.

Is Frenzied Flame missable?
No. PowerPyx’s trophy roadmap, dated October 13, 2026, reports “Number of missable trophies: 0” for the game. The same roadmap explains that free roam continues after the story and that previously visited regions remain reachable for cleanup. PixelForge independently labels Frenzied Flame “Missable No.” Together, those sources indicate that the trophy does not depend on choosing a particular ending, refusing an NPC, completing an event before a deadline, or spending an irreplaceable item.
That does not mean you can obtain it at the start of the game. Fortress access is gated by normal progression, and Fire Transmutation must be available before the sword interaction works. “Not missable” means you can safely continue the story and return later—not that the bonfire is present in the opening areas.
When can you get it?
Earliest practical point
The route becomes available once you reach Fortress. PixelForge places Fortress in Chapter 9, titled “In Ruins.” Critical Hits describes Fortress access as following University progression: obtain the University key and acquire poison protection at the University. If Fortress is not available on your fast-travel map, continue that progression rather than searching earlier regions for the bonfire.

Ability requirement
You need Fire Transmutation for the final interaction. The relevant action is a spell cast on the sword stuck in the ground, not a standard attack, weapon effect, or generic fire source. If the ability is not in your available powers, progress until the game has granted it before attempting the route.
Can you wait until after the final boss?
Yes. The post-story free-roam state preserves access to prior regions, so you can finish the campaign first and then clean up Frenzied Flame. This is useful if you prefer to avoid diverting from the main path or if you are collecting several Fortress objectives in one visit.
Exact route from Fortress Chapel
Use the following route once Fortress is unlocked. The key landmarks are the Chapel fast-travel point, a pole jump, a sewer room, two staircases, and the left-hand room containing the sword.

- Open the map and fast travel to Fortress > Chapel. Starting from Chapel places you at the documented entrance to the underground section.
- Enter the underground area. Follow the passages away from the Chapel until you reach the sewer room connected to a pole-jump traversal.
- Complete the pole jump. Continue into the sewer room on the other side. If you arrive in a different chamber, you have not followed the Chapel underground route described by the guides.
- Take the door on the left. Do not continue straight through the sewer room; the left door is the route toward the bonfire chamber.
- Reach the first staircase landing and turn left. At the bottom of the first set of stairs, make the left turn rather than entering another passage.
- Descend the second staircase. This second stairway leads to the level containing the interaction room.
- Enter the room on the left. Look for the sword planted in the ground. It is the visual landmark for the trophy interaction.
- Cast Fire Transmutation on the planted sword. When the castle bonfire ignites, the Frenzied Flame trophy should unlock. The Steam wording describes the result as igniting the bonfire, so the unlock is tied to the completed ignition rather than merely entering the room.
How to prepare before entering Fortress
- Confirm Fortress access: the area should be available after the University key and poison-protection progression described by Critical Hits.
- Check Fire Transmutation: place the ability where you can select and cast it reliably before approaching the sword.
- Use the Chapel fast-travel point: starting elsewhere in Fortress can make the underground entrance harder to identify.
- Keep the route landmarks in mind: pole jump, sewer room, left door, left turn at the first stair landing, second stairs, left room.
- Do not treat the trophy as a timed event: there is no reported deadline or ending-dependent trigger.
What to do if the bonfire interaction does not work
Fortress is not on the map
This is a progression issue, not a missed trophy. Return to the University objectives, make sure you have obtained the University key, and complete the poison-protection requirement associated with reaching Fortress. The route cannot be followed from an earlier chapter.

Use Chapel as your starting point and retrace the documented landmarks in order. The most common navigation error is taking the wrong exit from the sewer room or missing the left turn at the bottom of the first staircase. From the sewer room, use the left door; from the first stair landing, turn left and descend the second stairs; then enter the room on the left.
Fire Transmutation does nothing
Make sure you are targeting the sword embedded in the floor, not another object in the room, and that you are casting Fire Transmutation rather than attempting a normal weapon or fire attack. The trophy requires the bonfire to ignite. If the ability is unavailable, continue the main progression until it has been acquired.

The trophy notification is delayed
Wait for the bonfire ignition to complete and allow the platform overlay time to register. If the fire visibly ignites but the achievement does not appear, verify that your platform is online and that achievement synchronization is active, then check the achievement list before repeating the route. Because the objective is a single interaction, returning to the sword after free roam remains possible.

PowerPyx specifically states that the game retains free roam after the story and allows players to return everywhere to clean up missing collectibles and side content. Fortress is therefore not locked away by finishing the final boss. You can postpone Frenzied Flame, complete the campaign, and then fast travel back to Chapel for the same underground route.

Recommended timing strategies
Earn it immediately in Fortress
As soon as Fortress and Fire Transmutation are available, travel to Chapel and complete the route. This keeps the objective attached to the area where you first learn about it and removes one item from your eventual cleanup list.
Collect it during a Fortress sweep
If you are already exploring Fortress for other objectives, mark Chapel as your starting point and complete Frenzied Flame while you are nearby. The route is short but includes a traversal jump and two stair transitions, so doing it during a single area sweep avoids unnecessary backtracking.
Leave it for post-game cleanup
Finish the story first if you prefer an uninterrupted campaign. Once free roam begins, return to Fortress > Chapel and follow the same eight steps. This is the safest option for players who do not want to track chapter-specific tasks, because the trophy has no reported deadline.
