Playing Armored Core VI online with any altered game files or save data is an avoidable account risk and conflicts with the rules published by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco. The Terms of Service prohibit alterations to the game program, game data and save data, while Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) is loaded with the PC game and may inspect binaries and hardware memory. Available penalties include a warning, deletion of recorded data, suspension or loss of access to the online Services. No official whitelist makes a cosmetic, client-side or otherwise “safe” mod exempt.
The defensible arrangement is to use mods in an offline setup, then restore an unmodified installation and save before connecting to standard online play. That is risk management based on the published rules, not a publisher-certified safe harbor.

What the official rules actually prohibit
FromSoftware’s Terms of Service cover more than cheats
FromSoftware’s Terms of Service, Article 10, prohibit “alterations to the Game’s program, game data and/or save data,” along with reverse engineering and playing in a manner not intended by the company. The wording does not distinguish between a cosmetic replacement, a quality-of-life tweak, a balance change, a movement modification or a cheat. It also does not publish a list of approved mod types for online use.
For prohibited acts, the company or a service provider may issue warnings, delete recorded data, suspend use of the Services or cease providing access to them. Those are available remedies, not a promise that every altered installation receives the same response. The documents do not state a standard ban length, a detection threshold or a guaranteed appeal result.

Easy Anti-Cheat is part of the PC online environment
Article 11 says Easy Anti-Cheat loads with the game and may analyze game binaries and scan hardware memory for cheat detection. Armored Core VI’s Steam product listing identifies both online player-versus-player features and Easy Anti-Cheat. Therefore, a modded PC installation is not operating in a context where altered files are invisible by definition. The published language describes what the anti-cheat may inspect; it does not provide a probability of detection.
Version 1.05 added an explicit warning
Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s 2024 Version 1.05 notes state: “illegal violations of the terms of use, such as alterations, falsifications, etc. made to the game’s programming or character data, will be met with a warning/penalty.” The same notes say that the update is required for online play. “Character data” matters because a modified save can be risky even when the executable itself appears unchanged.
What “online” means for this question
The relevant dividing line is whether the game connects to the standard online Services, not whether another player can immediately see the modification. Ranked or casual PvP, matchmaking, online co-op and other connected features all fall on the connected side. A mod that changes only your user interface still runs from an altered installation when that connection is made.

Offline campaign play, testing in the garage without connecting to the Services, or experimentation with a deliberately isolated setup avoids the specific act of bringing altered files into standard online play. It does not turn the alteration into an authorized use of the game; it simply keeps the modded environment away from the service connection the rules govern.

The following categories are practical risk-management choices inferred from the published rules. They are not official categories or guarantees.

How to use mods without carrying them into online play
Use this workflow if you want to experiment while minimizing the chance of launching an altered environment into the Services.

- Choose an offline-only purpose. Decide that the modded copy will be used for campaign testing, visual changes, training or other local experimentation. Do not open matchmaking, co-op or PvP from that copy.
- Back up the vanilla state first. Keep an unmodified game installation and an unmodified save backup separate from the files used for testing. Label the folders clearly so a modded save cannot be mistaken for the online save.
- Install the mod only in the isolated environment. Follow the mod author’s file instructions, but do not treat a loader’s ability to start the game as permission to connect. Keep altered executable files, archives and configuration files out of the vanilla copy.
- Keep the connection boundary explicit. Start the modded environment only when you intend to play offline. If a launcher, loader or prompt offers an online option, cancel it rather than assuming the mod is harmless.
- Save progress separately. A character or progression save touched by a mod should remain in the offline set. The Version 1.05 warning specifically refers to alterations or falsifications to character data.
- Document what changed. Maintain a simple list of replaced files and modified saves. This makes restoration possible when a mod updates, conflicts or leaves files behind.
How to return to standard online play
Removing a visible mod is not the same as proving that the installation and save are vanilla. Use a clean restoration rather than relying on memory.

- Exit the game and its mod tools. Close the game, loader and any process that may still hold altered files open.
- Restore the original installation. Remove every modded file and restore the official files, or use the platform’s file-verification or reinstallation process to replace changed files. Do not leave a loader, altered DLL or modified archive in the normal launch path.
- Restore an unmodified save. Select the backup that was never opened or edited by the modded setup. Do not copy progression, character or configuration data from the experimental save into the online set unless it is demonstrably vanilla.
- Update to the required version. Version 1.05 notes state that the update is required for online play. Keep the game current through the normal platform update process rather than mixing files from different versions.
- Launch normally. Start Armored Core VI through the standard game path with EAC enabled as supplied by the PC installation. Do not use the offline executable, loader or mod-specific launch arguments for the online session.
- Check before connecting. If the game reports altered files, an integrity problem or an online restriction, stop and repair the installation instead of repeatedly attempting to connect.
Why “it is only cosmetic” is not a safe exception
A cosmetic change may not alter another player’s statistics, but the Terms prohibit alterations to the program and game data in broad terms. EAC’s described checks concern binaries and hardware memory, not whether a human would classify the visual result as fair. Because no official whitelist exists, the player cannot point to a published rule that exempts interface, texture, audio, animation or visual-only modifications.
The same reasoning applies to client-side claims. A modification can be client-side in effect and still require changed files or a changed save. The service does not publish a test that labels one client-side mod acceptable and another prohibited. Treat “client-side,” “cosmetic,” “quality of life” and “does not affect PvP” as descriptions of an alteration, not as permission.

Should you disable EAC to use mods?
Do not interpret disabling EAC as a way to make online mod use safe. The published terms describe EAC as part of the game’s anti-cheat environment, and the online update requirement remains. Turning off a protection, using an alternate executable or bypassing a normal launch path does not remove the prohibition on altering the game. It can also create a separate compatibility or access problem.
If a mod requires an EAC-disabled or alternate launch configuration, keep that configuration offline. Re-enable the normal protection and restore the vanilla files before using the standard Services.

- Stop connecting from the altered setup. Do not keep retrying matchmaking or create additional modified saves.
- Preserve the message. Record the exact warning, error code and date. Avoid deleting evidence that could help support identify the state of the installation.
- Return to a clean state. Restore official files and an unmodified save, then verify or reinstall the game through the platform.
- Use official support channels. Contact the publisher or platform support with the recorded message and a factual description of what happened. The reviewed rules do not promise a particular appeal outcome or specify how long a suspension lasts.
Do not assume that a clean reinstall automatically reverses a penalty. File restoration can prevent further accidental violations, but it cannot guarantee restoration of a suspended account or deleted recorded data.

What is not established publicly
Authoritative documents do not publish the percentage of mod users who are banned, a probability that EAC will detect a particular file, or an average suspension duration. Any precise number presented as a general “mod ban chance” would be speculation. Likewise, there is no published guarantee for a named loader, file swap, cosmetic package, balance mod, co-op mod or save editor.
The practical conclusion follows from the rules rather than from a claimed detection statistic: connecting an altered installation or save to standard Services exposes you to discretionary enforcement, while an offline-only setup avoids that connection. Keeping separate backups lowers the chance of an accidental crossover; it does not make online use of the altered files authorized.
Decision checklist
- Is the game connected to standard online Services? If yes, use the vanilla installation and save.
- Are any program files, archives, DLLs, configuration files or save data altered? If yes, keep that environment offline.
- Is EAC running through the normal PC launch path? For online play, restore the normal installation rather than bypassing it.
- Does the change affect competitive behavior, movement, progression or character data? Treat it as high-risk and offline-only; the Version 1.05 warning names programming and character-data alterations.
- Are modded and vanilla files and saves separated? If not, create separate backups before experimenting.
- Has the game displayed a warning or blocked access? Stop connecting, restore official files and contact support; no guaranteed appeal timetable is published.
If the answer to any file or save question is uncertain, postpone online play until you can verify a clean installation and unmodified save. There is no official exception that makes an online modded Armored Core VI session risk-free.
