Can You Play Bedrock on Lunar Client? What Works and How to Cross-Play

Lunar Client cannot launch Minecraft Bedrock, but Bedrock players can join a Lunar-hosted Java world through Hosted Worlds. Here are the exact steps and account requirements.

No—not directly. Lunar Client runs Minecraft: Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition. However, a Bedrock player can join a world hosted by someone using Lunar Client through Lunar’s Hosted Worlds feature. The Bedrock player stays in the regular Minecraft Bedrock app; Lunar does not launch or convert into a Bedrock client.

What Lunar Client actually supports

Lunar Client is a Java Edition client and modpack. Its supported Minecraft versions include releases from 1.7 through 1.21, and signing in requires a Microsoft account with Java Edition ownership or access through Xbox Game Pass.

That means you cannot select Bedrock Edition in Lunar Client, install Bedrock add-ons into it, or use Lunar as a replacement for the Bedrock launcher. Bedrock must be opened with the normal Minecraft Bedrock application.

How Bedrock players can join a Lunar world

The supported exception is Lunar Hosted Worlds. A Java player hosts the world in Lunar Client, and a Bedrock player connects to that hosted world from Bedrock.

Minecraft - Bedrock Edition PS4
  • Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
  • discover community creations in the new in-game store
  • access new mini games and game modes through servers

Java player: host the world

  1. Launch Lunar Client and enter the Java world you want to share.
  2. Press Esc and select Host World.
  3. Set World Privacy to Everyone.
  4. Copy the generated address. It uses the format <your Minecraft username>.lunarclient.world.
  5. Send that address to the Bedrock player.

Bedrock player: join the hosted world

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
  2. Select Play, then open the Servers tab.
  3. Choose Add Server.
  4. Enter the Lunar Hosted World address provided by the Java host.
  5. Enter port 19132.
  6. Save the entry and connect.

Lunar’s instructions describe the Bedrock route as: “To join a Lunar Client Hosted World while using Minecraft Bedrock Edition, press Play, go into Servers then find the Add Server button.”

What is running on each side?

Situation Client in use Where the world is hosted Cross-play available? Account requirement
Lunar player alone Java through Lunar Client Java single-player or Java multiplayer host Not applicable Java Edition ownership or Xbox Game Pass access
Bedrock player alone Regular Bedrock app Bedrock world, server, Realm or LAN session Not with a standard Java session Bedrock Edition access
Java Lunar player and Bedrock friend Java through Lunar Client and Bedrock app Lunar Hosted World Yes, through Hosted Worlds The Lunar host needs Java access; the Bedrock player needs Bedrock access

The Hosted Worlds connection is a specific cross-play service. It does not make ordinary Java servers, Realms or LAN worlds compatible with Bedrock.

Why ordinary Java and Bedrock multiplayer does not work

Minecraft’s standard multiplayer rules separate the editions. Java players normally join Java-hosted games, while Bedrock players use Bedrock-hosted games, servers, Realms or LAN sessions. A Java world opened to the local network is not automatically visible to a Bedrock device, and adding a Java server address in Bedrock does not create compatibility.

Cross-play requires a documented bridge or service. In the Lunar ecosystem, Hosted Worlds is the documented meeting point for a Lunar Java player and a Bedrock player.

Do you need to buy Java Edition?

Lunar Client’s login requirement is Java Edition access. A Microsoft account that owns only Bedrock cannot use Lunar as a Bedrock launcher.

On PC, Minecraft is sold as a combined Java & Bedrock Edition product. Lunar’s login guidance also explains that people who previously bought Bedrock may be able to claim Java Edition on the same Microsoft account. If Java has been added to that account, Lunar can use the Java entitlement; the game still runs as Java inside Lunar.

Minecraft - Bedrock Edition PS4 (Renewed)
  • Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
  • discover community creations in the new in-game store
  • access new mini games and game modes through servers
  • Buying or owning Bedrock does not make Lunar launch Bedrock.
  • Check that the Microsoft account signed into Lunar is the one with Java ownership or Game Pass access.
  • The Bedrock player still needs access to the Bedrock app on the account used for joining.

Troubleshooting a Bedrock-to-Lunar connection

The Bedrock player cannot find the world

  • Confirm the Java host selected Host World from inside the active Lunar world.
  • Check that World Privacy is set to Everyone.
  • Re-enter the complete address in the format username.lunarclient.world.
  • Use port 19132 in Bedrock’s Add Server screen.

Lunar will not let the Java player sign in

  • Verify Java Edition ownership or Xbox Game Pass access on the Microsoft account.
  • If Java was obtained after a Bedrock purchase, confirm that both entitlements are attached to the same Microsoft account.

A normal server or Realm does not accept the Bedrock player

That is expected unless the server or service explicitly provides a Java–Bedrock bridge. Use Lunar Hosted Worlds for the documented Lunar-to-Bedrock route, or use a Bedrock-native session for everyone.

The practical answer

You cannot play Bedrock Edition inside Lunar Client. You can, however, cross-play with a Bedrock friend when the Java player hosts through Lunar Hosted Worlds and the Bedrock player joins from Play > Servers > Add Server using port 19132. Lunar remains a Java client throughout that connection.
