Yes. ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN supports solo play, two-player Expeditions and three-player co-op. The duo option was added in Version 1.02 on July 31, 2025, so the older claim that the game cannot be played as a duo is no longer accurate.
Which party sizes does Nightreign support?
Bandai Namco’s Version 1.02 patch notes say, “You may now start an expedition with two Players.” The update also says game balance adjusts to the current number of players. Together with the publisher’s launch announcement describing solo play and teams of three, that establishes three supported party sizes:

How did duo play become available?
At launch, Bandai Namco described the game as playable solo or in teams of three. Version 1.02 later added the option to start an Expedition with two players. The patch notes list PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam as platforms targeted by the update.

Does the game balance change with party size?
Bandai Namco says game balance adjusts to the current number of players. The patch notes do not specify the exact adjustments, so they do not establish how difficulty or particular encounters differ between solo, duo and trio play.
