Rockstar labels the PS5 version “Plays Best On.” There is no official PC release announcement or date, and the announced launch version does not include PS4 or Xbox One.
Grand Theft Auto VI platforms at a glance
Rockstar’s launch materials identify two supported console families: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The same materials do not list a Windows PC version, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One. That omission matters: it means you should not buy the game expecting the announced launch edition to run on those older consoles, and you should treat PC availability as unconfirmed rather than promised.

Can you play GTA 6 on PS5?
Yes. PlayStation 5 is a confirmed launch platform. Rockstar’s store and game pages specifically list PS5, and the company’s wording says the game “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” That is Rockstar’s own positioning, not an independently measured performance ranking; it does not state a frame rate, resolution, or feature advantage over Xbox Series X|S.
If you already own a PS5, the announced version is the one intended for your console. PlayStation Store is one of the listed sales channels, and the launch date is November 19, 2026. Rockstar’s support information says pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, seven days before release. “Local midnight” refers to the time in your region, so the exact start moment depends on your account and store location.
#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Can you play GTA 6 on Xbox Series X or Series S?
Yes. Xbox Series X|S is the other confirmed launch family. The designation covers both current-generation Xbox models: Series X and Series S. Microsoft lists November 19, 2026, and Rockstar’s own materials list the same family.
The announcement does not describe different story content or a separate launch date for Series X versus Series S. It also does not publish hardware-specific performance numbers in the cited materials. If you are choosing between the two Xbox models, use the console specifications and storage requirements provided by Microsoft and the final product listing when those details are posted; do not infer them from the platform announcement alone.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
There is no official PC version or PC release date in Rockstar’s announced launch and support materials as of October 18, 2026. That makes PC availability unconfirmed. It is not the same as an official cancellation, but it is also not a release promise.
For a PC purchase decision, the practical rule is simple: do not buy a PC copy, a PC upgrade, or hardware specifically for GTA 6 until Rockstar publishes a PC announcement with supported specifications and a date. A retailer listing, forum post, leak, or prediction cannot replace that confirmation. The currently announced launch platforms are console-only.

- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Because no PC requirements have been published, there is no reliable minimum or recommended CPU, graphics card, memory, storage, operating-system version, or launcher requirement to report. Any such numbers circulating before Rockstar’s specification announcement should be treated as unofficial.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS4?
Not as part of the announced launch version. Rockstar’s official platform lists name PlayStation 5 but do not name PlayStation 4. The evidence therefore supports a PS5 launch, not a PS4 release.
Do not assume that PS4 backward compatibility will make the game playable. Backward compatibility normally concerns older games running on newer hardware; it does not make a new, PS5-targeted release run on an older PS4. Unless Rockstar announces a separate PS4 edition, a PS4 owner would need to move to supported hardware to play the launch version.

Will GTA 6 run on Xbox One?
No Xbox One edition is included in the announced launch platforms. Microsoft’s listing identifies Xbox Series X|S, while the Rockstar materials reviewed do not list Xbox One. The announced launch version should therefore be treated as unavailable on Xbox One.

Owning a digital Xbox One copy of another game in the series would not create an entitlement to GTA 6. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S are separate platform targets in the announcement. Wait for an explicit Xbox One listing before assuming support; none has been provided for the November 19 launch.
When does GTA 6 release, and when can you pre-load it?
Launch date
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft gives that date for the Xbox listing, and Rockstar’s game and support pages use the same date for the announced release.
Pre-loading
Rockstar’s support article says pre-loading starts at local midnight on November 12, 2026. Pre-loading downloads the game before launch so that the title can unlock when the release time arrives; it does not change which platforms are supported. Check the digital store attached to your console for the exact availability in your territory.

Rockstar says the game will be sold through PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store, and global retailers. The cited announcement does not provide a complete country-by-country launch timetable or pricing table, so local release times, taxes, and retailer stock can differ. What editions are announced?
Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 release lists two editions and U.S. prices. The figures below are the prices stated in that release, not a universal worldwide price; regional taxes, currency conversion, and retailer pricing may change the amount you pay.
| Edition | Listed U.S. price | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $79.99 | Announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | Announced by Take-Two; the cited release does not provide a complete feature-by-feature contents list. |
The price difference between the two listed editions is $20 in the United States. The announcement does not establish that either edition is available for PC, PS4, or Xbox One.
Does the physical GTA 6 copy include a disc?
No. Rockstar’s support information describes the physical version as a box containing a digital download code; no disc is included. Buying a box at a retailer therefore still requires an internet connection, a supported console, and enough storage to download and install the game.
This format also means a used physical box is only useful if its download code has not already been redeemed. Check the retailer’s return policy and the condition of the code before buying second-hand. The official materials do not state the download size, installation size, or how long the code remains valid.

Which console should a current PS4, Xbox One, or PC owner choose?
Both confirmed consoles can run the announced launch version. The decision is therefore based on the system you already own, the store ecosystem you use, and the hardware cost in your region rather than on a different GTA 6 release date.
| Situation | Supported path | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| You own a PS5 | Buy the PS5 edition | Edition, storage space, local price, and pre-load availability. |
| You own an Xbox Series X or Series S | Buy the Xbox Series X|S edition | Edition, storage space, local price, and pre-load availability. |
| You own a PS4 | Move to PS5 for the announced launch version | Console availability and the final PS5 store listing. |
| You own an Xbox One | Move to Xbox Series X or Series S | Console availability and the final Xbox store listing. |
| You play on PC | Wait for an official PC announcement | Do not rely on unofficial requirements, dates, or retailer pages. |
No hardware prices are stated in the cited Rockstar, Microsoft, or Take-Two materials. Console costs vary by country, bundle, storage configuration, taxes, and promotions, so a responsible upgrade budget must use the live price in your market rather than a single global figure.
What the platform announcement does—and does not—tell you
It confirms the launch targets
The announcement is specific about PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the systems for which you can currently plan a November 19 purchase.

Rockstar has not supplied the cited materials with resolution modes, frame-rate targets, ray-tracing settings, storage requirements, download size, or console-specific feature differences. Avoid treating screenshots, leaks, or assumed specifications as final.
It does not confirm a later PC or older-console edition
Future platform announcements are possible in the abstract, but none appears in the official material available on October 18, 2026. The only defensible status for PC is unconfirmed; PS4 and Xbox One are not supported by the announced launch version.
Why the platform choice matters before you preorder
- Hardware: You need a PS5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S for the announced launch edition. A PS4 or Xbox One is not listed as compatible.
- Account and store: Digital purchases are tied to the relevant PlayStation or Xbox storefront. Confirm that the account region and payment method match the country in which you intend to play.
- Internet access: Digital editions and the physical download-code package require downloading the game. The physical box does not provide an offline disc installation.
- Timing: Pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, while the scheduled release is November 19.
- Edition price: Take-Two lists $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate in the United States; local totals can differ.
- PC planning: Without an official PC announcement, there are no authoritative PC requirements or date to use for a build or purchase decision.
Franchise context
Take-Two and Rockstar state that the Grand Theft Auto franchise has sold in more than 470 million units worldwide as of 2026. That is franchise-wide sales context, not a sales figure for Grand Theft Auto VI, which has not launched as of October 18, 2026. It explains the level of interest in platform compatibility but does not change the announced hardware list.
The practical answer
If you want to play on launch day, choose the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S edition and plan around November 19, 2026, with pre-loading from November 12 at local midnight. Do not expect the announced version to run on PS4 or Xbox One. For PC, wait for Rockstar to publish an official version and release date; until then, PC support remains unconfirmed.
