Did the free weekend include Update 1.3?
No. Obsidian announced Update 1.3 on November 13, 2023—more than six months after the April free weekend. The dates rule out the weekend as a chance to try that update. Obsidian’s Update 1.3 announcement introduced Playgrounds, a mode for creating, sharing, and playing custom Grounded experiences. It also highlighted 40+ new building pieces, quality-of-life changes, a revamped BURG.L quest system, and a basketball item.
Can you play Grounded free on Steam now?
The historical announcement does not establish a current offer, and the available sources do not verify Steam’s live free-play status on October 8, 2026. Check the game’s Steam store page for any active trial or promotion before downloading; do not rely on the April 2023 event as evidence that the game is currently free.
