No. GTA Online does not support multiplayer crossplay between a Windows PC player and someone on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S console. Rockstar currently states that cross-network play applies between PC platforms, while PC players cannot play with console players. This remains true when the PC copy is installed through the Xbox app or PC Game Pass.
The Xbox app on Windows is a PC distribution channel, not the Xbox console version. PC players can play together across supported PC storefronts, provided they launch the same edition of the game.

Does GTA 5 support PC-to-Xbox crossplay?
For GTA Online multiplayer, PC-to-Xbox-console play is unsupported. A player using the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, Epic Games Store or the Xbox app on Windows is running a PC build. An Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S player is running a console build, and Rockstar does not place those platforms in the same multiplayer pool. See Rockstar’s current guidance at Rockstar Support.
This is about joining the same GTA Online session. It is separate from Story Mode, account linking, progression migration and buying the game through a particular store.

Why the Xbox app version on PC is still a PC game
There are two different products that can appear under the Xbox brand:
- Xbox console version: installed on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- Xbox app PC version: installed on Windows through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store.
They may use the same Xbox account identity, gamertag and app interface, but they are different platform builds. Xbox achievements or an Xbox-style social overlay do not create console crossplay. Rockstar specifically lists the Xbox app on PC alongside Steam, Epic and the Rockstar Games Launcher as PC platforms in its support documentation.
Can Enhanced and Legacy players play together?
For practical purposes, no. GTAV Enhanced launched on PC on March 4, 2025, as a free upgrade for existing PC owners; the earlier PC release was renamed GTAV Legacy and remains supported. Rockstar’s announcement is available at Rockstar Newswire.
Enhanced is also available on PC through Game Pass from April 15, 2025, but “Enhanced” describes an edition, not a universal PC-and-console matchmaking pool. Xbox’s announcement says players need to use the same edition to squad up: Xbox Wire.
If one PC player cannot join another, check which executable each person launched. Install or launch the same edition—Enhanced with Enhanced or Legacy with Legacy—before changing privacy settings.
Can Steam, Epic, Rockstar Launcher and Xbox app PC players join one another?
Yes. Rockstar describes cross-network play between those PC platforms. The storefront does not by itself prevent PC-to-PC play. Both players still need:
- the same edition (Enhanced or Legacy);
- working Rockstar Games accounts;
- matching game updates;
- privacy settings that permit multiplayer and visibility; and
- available Rockstar services and a connection that is not blocked by firewall, NAT, VPN or account restrictions.
A Rockstar Games account is required on PC for installation, online play and certain online features: Rockstar account requirements.
How to fix GTA Online joining problems when both players are on PC

These settings help PC players join other PC platforms; they do not enable PC-to-Xbox-console play.

- Open the Xbox app on PC.
- Select Profile & settings, then the profile icon if necessary.
- Open Settings.
- Under Account, open Privacy Settings and choose Manage.
- Open Xbox and Windows 10 devices Online Safety.
- Set You can join multiplayer games to Allow.
- Set You can join cross-network play to Allow.
- Select Submit.

Make your Rockstar presence visible
- Open GTA Online.
- Open the Rockstar Games menu and select the Settings gear.
- Open Game Settings.
- Set Presence Visibility to Everyone.
If you are in the same Crew, use Pause menu → Online → Join Crew Members. Rockstar also documents Online → Crews → My Crews → View Members → select friend → Join Game: PC joining steps.
Check the edition and basic service conditions
- Confirm both players launched Enhanced or both launched Legacy.
- Install pending updates and restart the game.
- Check Rockstar service status before troubleshooting local networking.
- Temporarily test without a VPN and verify firewall or NAT restrictions.
- Ensure neither account has parental or platform communication restrictions.
Does cross-progression let you use an Xbox character on PC?
No. Crossplay and progression migration are different systems. Rockstar does not support migrating a GTA Online profile between an Xbox or PlayStation console family and PC. Supported console-family paths include Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S and PS4 to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S in the relevant migration process, but not console-to-PC: character-transfer guidance.
Using the same Rockstar Games account does not merge multiplayer pools or automatically copy a console character to PC. Purchased GTA$ and other platform-linked entitlements can have additional restrictions, detailed by Rockstar at platform-transfer guidance.

What if both friends have GTA V through Game Pass?
Game Pass availability on both devices does not change the platform rule. PC Game Pass supplies the PC edition; Xbox Game Pass supplies the console edition. A PC player and an Xbox-console player still cannot join the same GTA Online session merely because both copies came from Game Pass. Xbox lists GTA V availability at Xbox.com, while Rockstar documents the platform separation at Rockstar Support.

Move both players to PC
The Xbox player needs access to a supported Windows PC version, and both players should launch the same edition. Buying a PC copy helps only if both people actually play on PC.
Move both players to Xbox
The PC player must use an Xbox console and the compatible Xbox edition. Console online multiplayer requires a qualifying Xbox Game Pass subscription, sold separately; plan names and availability change by region and date.
Choose a different crossplay game
If neither player can change hardware, a game with confirmed PC–Xbox crossplay is the only direct multiplayer alternative. FiveM does not solve this: it is a PC community-server platform, not a bridge from standard GTA Online on PC to Xbox.

Stay connected without sharing a session
Voice chat or screen sharing can let friends talk while playing separately, but neither creates GTA Online crossplay.

- “It is in the Xbox app, so it is the Xbox console version.” It is not.
- “Enhanced means every Enhanced platform shares one pool.” It does not.
- “The same Rockstar account means shared multiplayer.” It does not.
- “Game Pass on both systems guarantees crossplay.” It does not.
- “Legacy can join Xbox One because both are older versions.” It cannot.
- “GTA+ unlocks crossplay.” Rockstar provides no such feature; GTA+ availability is described at Rockstar Support.
