Nintendo Switch games are not native PS5 games, and PlayStation’s documented backward compatibility covers PS4 games on PS5, not Switch titles. An unofficial homebrew emulator port called ProsperoEden has been reported for modified PS5 consoles, but it is experimental and does not offer dependable, supported compatibility. If you want to play authentic Switch games, use Nintendo Switch hardware.
What works—and what does not
A Switch game card or Nintendo game license does not turn into a PS5 game. PlayStation’s backward-compatibility information describes playing PS4 games on PS5; it does not document support for Nintendo Switch games. That is the boundary of official compatibility, not a claim that unofficial software can never run on a modified console.

What ProsperoEden is, and why results vary
ProsperoEden describes itself as an unofficial PS5 port of Eden, a Nintendo Switch emulator. Its documentation calls for homebrew installation and game files supplied by the user. This is a technical project for modified consoles, not an app or feature supported by Sony or Nintendo.
Tom’s Hardware reported in late September 2026 that the emulator was at an early stage: some games could run, while others performed poorly or failed. Firmware and emulator builds affect what happens, so a demonstration of one title on one setup does not predict results on another PS5. Treat any reported frame rate or game-specific outcome as a dated snapshot, not a promise of compatibility.

Terms, legality, and practical risks
Sony’s US PS5 software terms
Sony’s US PS5 System Software License Agreement, version 1.12, restricts using unauthorized, illegal, counterfeit, or modified hardware or software with PS5 system software; bypassing PS5 encryption, security, or authentication; and using PS5 system software to accept unauthorized, illegal, or pirated software or hardware. The agreement says the restrictions apply to the greatest extent permitted by the user’s jurisdiction. This is the US agreement; Sony’s terms may differ by region.
Nintendo’s position on circumvention and unauthorized copies
Nintendo’s Intellectual Property & Piracy FAQ says uploading and downloading pirate copies of Nintendo games is illegal. It describes circumvention products as devices or software used to bypass Nintendo security measures to make, modify, or play unauthorized game files, and says specified importing, marketing, selling, or distribution of such products is illegal. Nintendo also warns that unauthorized circumvention products may damage Nintendo hardware without warranty coverage, reduce functionality such as online play, or leave a console unable to work after network updates.

Nintendo’s statements describe its published position; they are not a universal ruling that every emulator is illegal everywhere. Rules for copyright, personal backups, anti-circumvention, warranty, and contracts depend on the country and circumstances. Nintendo’s separate UK circumvention-products page is a UK-facing statement, not a worldwide legal determination.
Warranty and data risks of modified-console homebrew
ProsperoEden’s own disclaimer says that homebrew requires a modified console and may void its warranty, breach platform terms, or cause data loss. That is the project’s warning, not a legal conclusion. Before considering any modification, weigh the possibility of losing console functionality or data alongside the uncertain game results.

The practical choice
If your goal is simply to play Switch games, choose Nintendo Switch hardware and obtain games through Nintendo’s supported channels. A Nintendo Switch OLED console is one hardware option; it does not add Switch compatibility to a PS5. ProsperoEden is relevant only if you are deliberately exploring experimental homebrew on a modified console and accept the compatibility and platform risks.
