Yes. You can play Nintendo Switch Sports without a Nintendo Switch Online membership in local play. To play online, Nintendo requires an active membership. Without one, the game’s Play Globally option offers a trial competition against computer-controlled competitors—not unrestricted online matchmaking.
What you can play without a membership
Local play does not require Nintendo Switch Online. You can play with people together locally rather than using the game’s online features. Nintendo’s official game page distinguishes online features from local play.

If you select Play Globally without a membership, Nintendo Support says you can take part in a trial competition against computer competitors. That limited option is not the same as full online play with other players. See Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Sports FAQ.
What requires Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo Support states that an active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to play Nintendo Switch Sports online. Nintendo also says online features require a Nintendo Account. These are separate requirements: an account is not a substitute for the paid membership.

Is LAN play the same as local or online play?
No. Nintendo documents LAN play as a separate setup in which multiple consoles connect through a shared wired router. Its LAN play instructions describe the equipment and connection setup, but do not explicitly state whether Nintendo Switch Online membership is required. So the membership-free local-play answer should not be assumed to cover LAN.

No. Nintendo notes that a Leg Strap is required for some Soccer gameplay, but that accessory requirement does not change which play options require a membership. Details are on the official game page.
